Obviously something is wrong, as CMW had a bad spring training too. If he's injured or something, then Hughes would come up.
I thought Pettite or Burnett going down would be the key to Hughes' call-up, not CMW.
And wow, Ransom is a bag of suck in the field.

Yeah, but isn't Tommy John a lot less serious for a position player than it is for a pitcher?
I think a few QBs got Tommy John surgery, and the rehab time was the equivalent of a knee injury.
This is... not good... especially with Matsui stinking up the joint right now. We might get a look at Mr. Jackson sooner than later.

That sucks, but hopefully it's just scar tissue like Nady said in the article. On the up side, it looks like there will be no trouble finding at bats for Swisher now.

Abraham is correct when he said he needs to be playing everyday right now in his development, promoting him to a bench player doesn't make much sense. it would really only hinder his progress. and this comes from a guy who can't wait to see AJ in pinstripes.

I could literally rattle off a ton of people who could sing an anthem to open up the new stadium who have ties to the Yankees or the area.
Kelly Clarkson, as successful as she is, is a pop icon from Texas. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH NEW YORK!?
Do you know what would have been perfect? Bernie doing the Anthem on guitar with a vocalist.

It was one of those moments that'll be part of sports forever. I'm happy to be able to say I was there to witness it.
great moment, i even recorded some of it on my digital camera
was at the game today (200 level): easy to get in (the main gate had insanely long lines, but the other gates were quicker) and to the seats
the concessions face the stadium, and everything is pretty open the walk from first to third base side has great views ... the lines at the consessions seemed a little longer than it needed to be, but all the food was fresh and the guinness was tasty
the stadium is amazing and all the improvements, bells and whistles are really impressive -- although, there's a coldness (almost factory-like) in some of the in some of the design
i was afraid that it was going to be a real letdown watching a game there, but they really did an amazing job ... after 30 years of looking at the same places for info, it did take me a few extra moments to find the count or the time
great day, even with the loss

# Obstructed View Seats are defined by the Yankees as: Rows A-B in all Main Boxes (201-350) and Tier Reserved (1-36). The obstructed view is due to fans walking in the aisles.
# Other Obstructed View seats include Field Box 110, 112 and 114; Main Box 313, 315, 317, 319, 330, 332; Main Reserved 29 and 32; Loge Box 521, 523, 530, 532; Tier Box 657, 659, 660, and 662; Tier Reserved 29 and 32. Bleachers section 55 are obstructed view due to the foul pole.

i have no answer. i curious as to why several things happened with the new stadium, most of which i listed in here. im curious as to why its suddenly a launching pad, why theres no crowd noise, why groups of people cant see and why it costs close to 3 grand to sit so close and why those 3 grand people are cement blocked off from the rest of the crowd. as nice as the new stadium is visually, im starting to not like it. but, im sure ill get used to it

I've gotta assume a DL stint is comming for Wanger soon. The reason they didnt do it up until today was because Girardi, Wang and Eiland all swore up and down he was perfectly healthy. now they have to say something is wrong and stick him on the DL.
At least the Sox were smart enough to put Dice K on the DL. Why let this happen to Wang?
2K, 23R, 34.50ERA in 6 IP
Because he's healthy. Or they say he is anyway. It's not tired arm, he didn't pitch the last half of last year at all. Although after this I think they might find an excuse to throw him on the DL just so they can let him work things out.

1. Probably just different wind currents.
2. Rows are less steep and so every consecutive row is farther away. Good for comfort but bad for crowd noise.
3. Because obstructed view seating is apparently the hip thing to add to your new stadium. Between Camden Yards and now they've run out of every good thing to ass from the old stadiums so now they are adding the shitty things.
4. Because people are willing to pay that much. Or they thought they were. I saw plenty of empty seats up close today.
5. BECAUSE THEY ARE FANCY PEOPLE.

1) Agreed, but that should have been taken into consideration during planning right? Do you want a stadium that drastically different than the old one? I like the way the ball played in the old park better.
2) Another shitty construction flaw in my opinion
3) thats just gay.
4) Theres wayyyy too many open seats up close and thats just a crappy thing to do to your hardcore fans, price them out.
5) Those people dont even belong at a ballgame.
I disagree on the rows thing. I like feeling like I'm not hiking down or up a canyon to get to my seats and any extra room would be greatly appreciated. If I want to feel like I've been jammed into a tuna can I'll go see a Devils game at the Prudential Center.

My biggest issue with the stadium, which Big A brought up, was Monument Park/Cave.
When it was originally conceived, the batter's eye section of the sports bar didn't stick that far out, so Monument Park was exposed and visible from the stands.
But now the Batter's Eye section expands out over Monument Park.
Hopefully, that's something that will be corrected.

Yankees cut some premium ticket prices
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
4:05 PM EDT, April 28, 2009
The Yankees are cutting some premium ticket prices and giving free seats to other ticket holders in response to empty seats during the first homestand at their fancy new ballpark.
The Yankees on Tuesday slashed the price of some first-row Legends Suite season seats from $2,500 to $1,250, and others from $1,000 to $650.
Those who bought $2,500 first-row season tickets that weren't reduced will receive an equal number of free first-row tickets for the rest of the season. Those who bought $1,250 first-row seats will receive free seats for 24 games.

Makes sense if somethings not working fix it. You still have to get people to show up and sit in those seats even if they're sold. That's the rub. The corporate seats even sold won't be full all the time.

i would post a link, but this is all i can find for now. all the ticket info
This from Hal Steinbrenner via the Yankees:
“A few weeks ago I indicated that in light of the economy we would review the pricing of a small number of our premium locations at Yankee Stadium; specifically, our Suite Seats. I mentioned a small number of locations because in excess of 3.4 million seats, including 37,000 full season equivalents as well as approximately 85% of all our premium locations have already been sold. Yet, there are a few hundred Suite Seats in our premium locations that have not been sold on a full season basis. As a result, and for many of our fans who have already purchased full season Suite Seats in such premium locations, the Yankees are announcing today a program that adjusts certain prices and benefits affecting such Suite Seats.”
For the 2009 regular season only, the following price adjustments and benefits are being adopted effective immediately for a few hundred Legends Suite and Delta Sky 360 Suite Licensees.
A. The full season Legends Suite and Ticket Licenses in the first row in Sections 15A, 15B, 24B and 25 will be reduced from $2,500 to $1,250 per regular season game. All fans who have purchased such full season Suite and Ticket Licenses will receive, at their choice, a refund or a credit.
B. The full season Legends Suite and Ticket Licenses in the first row in Sections 11, 12, 13, 27B, 28 and 29 will be reduced from $1,000 to $650 per regular season game. All fans who have purchased such full season Suite and Ticket Licenses will receive, at their choice, a refund or a credit.
C. All fans who purchased full season $2,500 Legends Suite and Ticket Licenses in the first row, in Sections 16 – 24A, will receive an equal number of complimentary Legends Suite Seats in the first row in Sections 16 – 24A for each of the remaining regular season games during the 2009 regular season.
D. All fans who purchased full season $1,250 Legends Suite and Ticket Licenses will receive an equal number of complimentary Legends Suite Seats in the $1,250 Legends Suite price category for 24 games during the 2009 regular season, as selected by the Yankees.
E. All fans who purchased full season $850 Legends Suite and Ticket Licenses will receive an equal number of complimentary Legends Suite Seats in the $850 Legends Suite price category for 8 games and in the $500 Legends Suite price category for 4 games during the 2009 regular season, as selected by the Yankees.
F. All fans who purchased full season $600 Legends Suite and Ticket Licenses will receive an equal number of complimentary Legends Suite Seats in the $500 Legends Suite price category for 10 games during the 2009 regular season, as selected by the Yankees.

He was talking about Joba.
But yes, the fat man was really ranting yesterday about the Yankees.
not to belabor the point, what did they do to joba ...? was it the switching him between a starter and set-up ...?

i caught a few minutes of mike francessa yesterday, and he was ranting against the yanks developing talent as compared to the success of the red sox over the last few years
he mentioned that the one pitcher the yanks brought up that had any fight in him, the team robbed him of any spirit
who was he talking about ...? joba, hughes ...?
not to belabor the point, what did they do to joba ...? was it the switching him between a starter and set-up ...?
Basically he's talking about the switch back to starter. They took a guy who was fairly dominant as a 1-inning (or so) guy & made him into a starter based on the belief he was going to be one of those special, dominant starters. So far he has looked pretty ordinary, therefore Mike thinks they have cut his balls off since now no one fears him.
And considering:
(1) Hughes pitched well enough in the spring to make the rotation under normal circumstances and...
(2) The hierarchy still wants to limit Joba's innings total for the year which, if he was "special" as they predicted & was in line to make 35 starts, their innings limit would have meant shutting him down or moving him to the pen before the end of the year anyway...
...I can't say I disagree.
Not this shit again. Joba has been a starting pitcher his entire career until the last two years. Him starting is not a transition. Him relieving was the transition. And anyone expecting him to be a consistently dominant starter after 15 fucking starts is ridiculously retarded.
BTW, here are his numbers in his 15 career MLB starts: 81 IP, 79 H, 35 BB, 85 Ks, 2.99 ERA. That's not ordinary. That's good by any measure, exceptional for a pitcher's first 15 MLB starts.
I can't believe I have to point out that Mike Francessa is a reactionary idiot but I guess I have to. I don't know where this "stole his spirit" idea came from but I have a feeling it's from the same places Mike pushes out his shit. The innings limit argument is nonsense. It's what they do with all their starting pitchers. And you can't say just replace him with Hughes in the rotation because thanks to Hughes' injuries last year he too has an innings limit. Besides the coaching staff isn't stupid. They know Joba's limit and they are planning to skip him in the rotation when possible so they don't have to shut him down.
I'm sure this shit won't stop until Joba pitches 20 perfect games in a row. But then once he gives up a run in that 21st start we'll be back to this 'BLAH BLAH BLAH BULLPEN BLAH BLAH BLAH" shit yet again.

Wasn't looking to open up that beaten-to-death debate again, just answering a question for a fellow board member who's question was skipped by some people.
Joba is a starter, that's always been the plan. It just seemed like thing were set up this year where it would have made sense to give him more time to learn the league & ease him into the rotation if/when needed to keep his innings down. They decided not to do that & now he's a starter from April, no more discussion necessary.

Joba sucks as a starter......totally needs to only pitch the 8th. if tonight wasnt proof enough that he belongs back in the pen, i dont know if it will ever happen.

People say the fence is straight and not curved now which took away like 8 or 10 feet of outfield in left center. I'll have to see it for myself Monday though to be sure.

as a long time yanks fan, i hate a-rod. i feel that he brings nothing to the table that is not already there this year. Tex has the bat, swisher has the personality i feel a-rod does not have, and i understand it is him but i feel we have what we need and then there is a-rod. I can actually enjoy a game with a young prospect from the system, the yanks forgot what got em to the show, the fucking farm system... i am frustrated but in the same breath i will die with them, i don't care about that, i just feel that a-rod is doing more harm then good, from his personal life to the injuries and epic fails in the post season.

You may not like him but you can't subtract one of the best hitters in the game and not suffer on the field. Don't let your hate of him make you think that Ramiro Pena, Angel Berroa or Cody Ransom make this a better tram because that is ridiculous.

I think there is something to be said about the circus that Arod has now off the field that'll hang like a weight around this team's neck once he returns. You can't replace his numbers no... But right now they actually look like a cohesive team that plays well together. Something they haven't had for a long long time. They're not an all star team. They're a team that looks a lot like the team from the late 90's. How is that gonna' be impacted once bitch tits returns?
"So Joe... The team has really hit it's stride these pass few weeks, how do you feel that'll be impacted by Alex's return?"
"Derek... Congrats on that game winning hit tonight, so how do you feel about Alex possibly taking steroids in high school?"
"CC... Nice shut out tonight, what are your impressions of Alex so far as a team mate?"
When does bitch tits hit T.O. territory?

Fuck Fox their coverage is garbage anyway. It's only a matter of time before they come up with some stupid as shit new camera angle to push some sort of cartoony animated animal character as the new greatest thing to ever happen to baseball. I hope Tim McCarver gets H1N1 and spews chunks all over Joe Buck's cock loving face.
However it is nice to actually feel, like yesterday and today, that even if they don't come back and win a game like today's it's possible for them to do it and they don't just pack it in like they have the past couple years... I guess more so last year than ever before.

again, cause it poured all day. Id bet 50% didnt even show assuming it would just be rained out. The other people who did show probably left after an hour or so of delay. When they preliminarily showed the tarp on the field, there were way more people in the stands then when the game was finally being played.
Im the last person that would defend the yankees if it wasnt warranted, but the way weather was, I cant get on anyone for not showing. I guess if you can afford to eat a 2G ticket, more power to ya
