dont worry, the best manager in baseball couldnt possibly let his team blow a lead
Angels are a gritty team
They play with a lot of heart
They have a bunch of gamers
There's a lot of hustle in the dugout
They just know how to play the game the right way

Nice how Arod elbowed Aybar in the nuts trying to break up that doubleplay.

They've struck out 6 times against a guy with an 88 MPH fastball.

Chipper wasn't exactly busting it out of the box in the highlight.
You owe one Vlad, for that terrible baserunning mistake earlier....tie it up!
This home plate ump sucks...that pitch to A-Rod 3-1 is a ball, but that first pitch to Vlad is a strike???
Rule of thumb...if Vlad takes a pitch, it's usually about 20 feet off the plate.

Is that play gonna go into Jeter's imaginary defensive greatness reel ?
I'm suprised they haven't said that he purposefully hit it off his chest to Cano.
And the announcers seemed like it was strange that Cano would be there to make that play.
Yeah why would the 2nd baseman be at the bag on a potential double play ball hit to the SS ?

JimBeam
10-25-2009, 07:17 PM
You couldn't be any more incorrect.
I'm a Braves fan so what happens to Papplebon really doesn't concern me.
So do you want to use that same, corny trite line and say that the Braves didn't even make the playoffs ?
Wasn't the " playing golf " retort trendy like 30 years ago ?
And yes I do get a lot of joy out of watching the Yankees lose and since there was no tag on here that said " Only Positive Yankee Posts Allowed " this was the most appropriate place to post.
And actually only 1 of my last 6 posts was particulary anti-Yankee.
I mocked the Angels in 2 of them, mocked Buck in another, actually questioned the hustle of my own favorite player on my actual favorite team in another and questioned the slide of a Yankee which I guess could be anti-Yankee.

So now the announcers are talking about the " great defensive play " of Cano ?
What because he's a Major League baseball player and has field cleanly the few balls hit to him ?
It's not beer league softball.
He should be able to field a ball hit a few feet to his right no ?

What's so bad is they seem to resort to the same " go to " blurbs every f-ing game.
By the way did you guys see A-Rod getting himself into proper Jeter a$$ grab position in the dugout ?
If, when, they win this game he may try and get to 2nd or 3rd base tonight.
It's over, johnny.
Kazmir did a good job suppressing his Mets blood for as long as he has in his career, but in the biggest moment of his career, it finally pokes through.

Actually they were chatting him up a few times before he even got that play of the game acknowledgement.
But again why was it a great play ?
He went 3 steps the his right and held the runner from advancing before throwing to 1st to get an out.
Wouldn't every middle infielder in MLB make that same play ?

Pedro's not getting the Game 2 start.
He'll get Game 3 at CBP, so he can pitch around the lineup a little better with the pitcher's spot.
Hamels will get Game 2. Phils will go with the two left-handers at the stadium to try and neutralize the left-handed power with the short right field porch.
So much for that idea.

we literally sat in like 2 hours of traffic to get to the lincoln tunnel. by the time we were parked and everything in the city it was past 10am. i think the parade starts around noon. trying to get a spot with a million other new yorkers with less than 2 hours before the start time was just impossible. we just went to a bar that served minors and had some drinks and watched it on tv.

But he got the job done.
Mariano was interviewed on Sportscenter last night. Remember when they showed him with a heating pack between his arm and his chest in the last game? Well Mariano said that he had some sort of rib injury that was killing him and he was glad that it was over tonight. He's fucking amazing. I thank God for thiiiiiis.

All these die hard Yankees fans.....why arent any of you there? I wouldnt have missed a parade for anything.
Three reasons:
1) I'm conserving my days off for next year when I'll have a kid and need to have some extra time off.
2) I went to the parades in 98 and 99. I had media access THEN and it sucked because it was just a crush of people and you really didn't see a lot unless you were at city hall.

Haven't the Golden Gloves always been a little suspect? It seems like every year there are questions, and it's hardly an anomaly when a higher profile player or a strong offensive player gets the award over someone with a stronger defensive year. I can't see being outraged when you look at the legacy the award has.

Youk is a great player. A great hitter and a versatile fielder. He is feared by other teams...and if the Red Sox got Tex in the offseason, he would have been a 3rd baseman...plain and simple. Tex is a better 1st baseman.
I think he ran into problems this season when he charged the mound and threw his helmet at Rick Porcello. If you think that didn't stick in the minds of the people voting for the GG, then I don't know what to tell ya.
I"m not sure if it makes that big of a difference but Youk also played around 20 games fewer than Tex this season.

I predict the Yankees will NOT get Halladay...If they have CC, AJ, Andy, Wang, Hughes and maybe Gaudin...it doesn't sit well with me that they would go after Doc.
Also, I don't see them trading Cano. I think he's going to be a Yankee for a LONG time.

You have to put Pena somewhere. That's where Cano becomes expendable. That's why he's the main piece of trade bait.
Cashman is smart. He's not gonna deal the prospects. He's willing to wait out Toronto. It helps that AJ is friends with Doc, and may tell him not to sign and come to the yankees anyway in 2011.

That's the problem. It could be a trade + sign deal like Johan did 2 years ago. That's why negotiations are open right now, but if they fall apart, then the Yankees would wait it out.

Would the Yankees necessarily be willing to spend top dollar on Halladay when he becomes a FA? He's obviously an amazing pitcher, but if he were to be signed for the Yanks he'd be 34 shortly after the start of his first season with them...I'd assume that someone like Cashman might be wary of dropping a huge contract on a pitcher that old, even as good as Halladay is.

Yankees informed Damon they are moving on without him. I've heard this before with A-Rod. Nick Johnson, as much as I like him, is not a season-long solution.
And BTW, I like the idea of the Yankees targeting Cliff Lee for 2011...

Ummm....
Nick Johnson has a 426 OBP...
At the #2 hole...
Do you even look at stats?
He also had an EqA of .298 and a WARP3 of 1.8 last year on the world's shittiest baseball team in DC last year. He's a huge upgrade over Matsui, especially since all he'll have to do is DH (where he can't run into anybody chasing pop flies and smash his leg).
And he was also healthy last year...424 PAs with DC, and another 150 with Florida.

He is a good OBP guy - but as far as i recall he only plays 1b (and for a while played a damn good 1b). Since you have Tex, that ain't gonna happen.
wouldnt Yankees have been better to not get a full time DH but rather a guy like DeRosa who could play a number of positions allowing guys like Posada to rest?

Derosa has a ton of intrest and prob wants a everyday job.
What people don't realize about Damon and Matsui is they are a big product of the stadium and lineup.
They won't be nearly as good elsewhere.
Johnson is a great fit. He is an on base machine, and playing in this lineup and park, his power numbers will go up.

Not only that, he's younger than Damon and Matsui, put up similar numbers (in a far, FAR shittier lineup), and only costs 5.5 million dollars, compared to the 13 million Damon wants, and the 6.5 million Matsui got from LAA

Nobody can make justjon and his rockies hat cry here. We all know who pulled the strings on that bullshit. And if not, it's a completely other type of bullshit.

Melky, Mike Dunn, and a prospect to the Braves for Javier Vasquez and Boone Logan.
So... who's playing Left Field? Gardner?

Did Holliday sign yet? Matt that is. I'd actually prefer him to Bay or Damon.

If the Yankees wanted to spend the money on Bay, why would the $1.4 million Melky was making last year have stopped them?

It's about the bat...not the money. You can't keep two left fielders either.

Melky Cabrera is a 4th outfielder. If they wanted to go after Bay or Holliday I feel like Cabrera would have been an afterthought, especially for the Yankees. I may be wrong, I guess time will tell.

I guess since the Braves were so interested, they'd rather keep Gardner on the bench over Melky.

I heard the prospect the Braves were getting, Arodys Vizcaino, was pretty good. They're also getting Dunn and the Yankees are sending $500k to the Braves. Cabrera seemed to not have much value. I actually wonder if they had to give up more not to send Gardner.
