I spilled a little water on my laptop keyboard. After drying it out as best as I could, only one key doesn't work, the delete key. Can I get this fixed.? If so, is this expensive to fix?

put the keyboard in a container of uncooked white rice. the rice absorbs the moisture

The rice is a good idea. I read once that you can actually run most simple keyboards through a dishwasher with the dryer off, and they will be OK. I think it was Kim Komando that recommended that for when you spill soda in them.

to me that sounds like it could cause more problems then its worth, wouldn't you likely end up with grains of rice getting lodged between and under the keys?

lol, thats funny

if it was just water there's not much to 'fix', just don't use the laptop (the bigger risk is the water migrating inside the computer and shorting something) for 24 hours....unplug it, take the battery out and let it sit

Yeah, it probably does need to dry a little more. I wouldn't worry about it.

If the laptop itself is booting up fine, the worst case scenario is that you'll have to replace the keyboard. I replaced mine a while back; the part cost like $20 and all I had to do was take out a few screws to remove the bezel holding it in, unplug a cable, plug the new one in, and put thes crews back I took out. Took about five minutes.

Let it dry keys down for a while, and try to prop it up so that air can circulate around the keys. If its a laptop, a rolled up bath towel under the screen, and use small items to support the keyboard edges, while allowing the keys to have nothing against them and let them dry out by air (not heat).

you can leave it open and point a small fan at the keyboard for a few hours, that should dry out any left over water. As Knox said, replacing the keyboard is a pretty inexpensive and simple fix. When I did it the cost was under $20 and it even came with instructions.

at least it cleaned away all the nut that's probably crusted up on it.

The laptop is booting up fine, it''s just the delete button that isn't working. If I can fix it this cheaply, that''s awesome.

Not even close.

next time remember to drink all the water near your computer

if youre not thirsty it can still be fun to practice spit-takes

No, didn't get to try this unorthodox method. File it away for next time.

I'll remember that.
I just used a spit take after reading one of CHUCKWAGONCOOK's anagram names from the other forum
