View Full Version : I don't think Fez really has his own opinions....

To preface this claim: I love Fez. A lot. When he's on point he's hilarious, and when he's all thrown off he's still radio gold. One of my favorite entertainment personalities to exist in my lifetime.
To get to the point: I started to notice that Fez doesn't seem to have an opinion based on thoughts he's had regarding the matter being discussed. Rather, his opinions seem to be based on the collective cynicism of popular culture.
He doesn't seem to be aware of pop culture at large, but does seem to have an amazing ability to parrot the talking points of various figureheads. Sometimes they're liberal, sometimes conservative, but in general I've never heard Fez have an opinion that I hadn't heard somewhere else.
Just wondering what anyone else thinks about this.
PS- Seriously, I <3 Todd.
I miss the old devoutly Lutheran, Log Cabin Republican Fez.
He was the best.

Fez is the best.
I enjoy everything he says and does.
Please leave the psychoanalysis to the ones Fez already has.

so you would rather have Fez act differently than he does on the show you enjoy (and enjoy him on) and throw off the dynamic of the show? i don't get it

I could never conjur up enough opinions for 3 hours each and every day. I honestly don't know how Ronny does it, but I don't hold it against Fez. I don't have a lot of stong opinions either. :annoyed:

No, he never said that. He made an observation (while pointing out multiple times just how much he loves Fez just so people wouldn't shit on him) and asked others what their opinion was.
Have we gotten to the point where if anyone dares raise a question about Ron and/or Fez they're a "hater"?
I hope not.

this thread is totally judging and shitting on Fez and his role on the show. its basically calling him a phony. If someone said the same thing about you as he said about Fez you'd be totally insulted

Really?
Why do you less than 3 Fez? I'm not up on the latest... is that a sexual reference?
I think the Fez character basis a lot of his opinion from personal experiences and not so much from pop culture... and I also heart Fez
I'll also say that anyone who disagrees with uticulus! doesn't listen too closely to the show. Ron makes an almost daily work out of reversing Fez's position on a subject, only to turn him back again, illustrating that Fez doesn't really have a strong opinion on anything, despite what he initially believes.
Oh, and here's some shocking news -
Sometimes I don't agree with everything Ron says!
Sometimes I think Fez has off days!
Sometimes I think Dave swings and misses!
Oh the horror!
I'm not a true fan, I guess.

I think everyone on the show has their own opinions, but Ron has such a strong personality (not to say he's a bully), he manages to whip everyone to his side with his persuasive view points.
I find myself disagreeing with an angle Ron takes sometimes and hearing Fez's crumbling defenses and I want to call in and yell at them to get spines and try to express themselves more clearly, but unfortunately I can only listen on replays.

I think Fez probably lost some of his grounding in life when he questioned God. Now, it was probably for his greater long term good, but to go through that sort of change in your late 50's is tough.
By contrast, I think its being rediscovered in his stances on gay issues, which I find to be very defined and positive, at least in terms of his support for gay rights. His adovcacy is clear, defined for him, and purposeful, and you'll see its one of the few issues where Ronnie throws sliders at him that he stays unflappable.
He's in some transition, but the rest will come.
Or not, I love him either way.

I don't think a discussion needs to result in a change. I'm simply opening up a conversation.
I'm not one of those guys who wants to come onto a forum and bitch about the way the show runs. I think the way Fez works is very beneficial to me entertainment, but I also see a pattern that may create an entertaining peripheral discussion.
I fail to see how the two things need to be mutually exclusive.

Fez losing his faith should have been the best thing for him. I just think he did it so late in life that the transition has been rough. I was very lucky to shake the abuse of religion early ( at 19 ) so it has been easier for me.
I honestly don't know why other people force religion on children and then wonder why later in life you become lost when you realize it's all phony.

The fact Fez watches wrestling, reads comics and hangs out in a certain area of New York means at least some of his tastes are different from the vast majority of people.

Oh he definitely has personal preferences and interests, but I think that's different.
If something doesn't directly involve him he seems to just pull from a reservoir of talking points that he's heard elsewhere. It's usually some sort of cynical rationale.
