I don't know if I agree with Glory as being a candidate.

Not that a movie with as depressingly sad an ending as that one has can't be considered an "ultimate guy movie" but I'm having trouble seeing it as something you might watch with your buddies and drink a beer, fart and belch around. You might consider watching it with your chick or all by yourself ... or in AP US History class.

Reservoir Dogs is a good candidate. So is Pulp Fiction, IMO.

I can see Animal House and Ferris Bueller's Day off as potential comedy candidates for "ultimate guy movie" and, to a lesser extent Caddyshack.

Nobody's mentioning stuff like Full Metal Jacket, Patton (although that may simply be too long) or The Great Escape, though ... is there a reason? Were war movies disqualified?

What's a guy movie supposed to be, anyway?

Is it supposed to be a movie a chick would never in a million years watch? Or is it supposed to be something obscure and bloody? Or what?

I mean, I've seen Jean-Claude Van Damme movies but I don't get the appeal ... the Muscles from Brussels just doesn't do it for me, but I know a few guys who would watch everything he ever made until their eyes bled. However, I don't think they're exactly "guy movies" ... they're just colossally bad.

I'm not saying I'm in my element, but I brought up Van Damme the other day and was shot down by someone else. Need I mention againl that I didn't hear yesterday's show, so I don't know the criteria as set forth by Ron and Fez during their discussion. Were there criteria defined? Because Reservoir Dogs is a great example of a fine film with a great ensemble cast comprised of absolutely amazing male actors, but it's also among my favorite movies, so I didn't quite get why it was more a "guy movie" than something like Fight Club or even Animal House might be.

If the movie doesn't have to be watchable, then, fine, Segal, Van Damme and all of Stallone's Rambo sequels should count by all means. I can't name a single female over the age of 9 who can sit through any of those and enjoy them.

But there are too many posters here mentioning movies that aren't exclusively and universally beloved by men only (in my experience, anyway), so it's just necessary IMO to point that out. If the criteria had been defined by anyone other than that "Manster" character, I wouldn't feel so welcome in this thread.
