I have two, and my wife has two.
4 - My lappy, wife's acer, my old compy, my new superbadass turbo machine I just built.
I've got parts I intend to Frankenstein up for a new Linux machine, when I get around to it.

nerd here :bye:
I just can't seem to part with them. I have two desktops in my computer room at home, one older but working tower in the garage, two really old but working Toshiba laptops, a hp laptop (son's really), then there's my work laptop, oh guess there's two really olders ones in "parts" in the garage too. I wish I had my dad's old TRS-80 then I could start a museum.

someone who likes to waste money.
not really, more like someone who's lazy and enjoys having a comp handy
-a mini mac I use as my email/file server
-a optiplex thats on its own internet connection which I use to download torrents....if it ever gets infected (which it does on occasion) I just reload an image file and its back to virgin
-another older optiplex in the garage where I keep all the vehicle maintenance logs and service manuals
-laptop in the basement workroom where I have a bunch of woodworking stuff and fly tying patterns
-an hp netbook in both the car and truck
-a netbook usually kept in my bedroom where I can surf
-same thing in the family room
-a custom rig in the family room used as an HTPC
but yes, I do like toys

even if I wasn't lazy I'd still need a minimum of 3.....could get away with a laptop for most of my day to day use (as long as there was a NAS device for pictures, music, etc.) a machine for downloads since there's no way I'd use any "production" machine for that and finally the HTPC

I have my desktop and my work laptop. Sarah has her laptop. I also have an old desktop thats being set up as a linux box to act as my personal fileshare, and a laptop that acts as a music server for the house.
To up the nerd factor, my latest desktop and Sarahs new laptop are the only two that I didn't personally build. To up it even MORE, even our pre builds are "custom" machines. Her laptop is from a company called Digital Storm out of California and my new desktop is an Alienware Aurora with the AMD Phenom Quad core. For an out of box I bought at Best Buy(I needed a PC, fast) it's a screamer, too bad the case is obnoxious:

I will give Alienware this: I've built and owned a lot of custom PCs over the years, I've never seen any of them as well put together/wired as this one.
