These rumors were floating around in November and looks like they are official now. Weird..

Wow.
So what, they're gonna do a Weekend at Bernies thing with Brad's corpse?
How is this not a "Long Beach Dub AllStars" reunion?

I always hated Sublime, but my opinion is this could create a large fan backlash if they're not REALLY careful. It's a whole different game when you replace the main member of the band and he's dead.

Jason Westfall, one of Sublime's managers, was quoted as saying that the surviving members of Sublime had no interest in continuing to perform and record under the "Sublime" name. "Just like Nirvana, Sublime died when Brad died", Westfall said.
apparently the band is on the bill as s*blime
the only way i think id find the acceptable is if it was some sort of death anniversary show
but bradley died at the end of may
i guess this really IS just about the money

Problem is this:
Talk about the old Sublime band too much and it looks like you're just feeding off the bones of the dead band member.
Talk about Sublime too little and you won't get anyone's attention because whoever these other guy's are, they weren't as well known.
They're in a tough spot, my opinion is with the main singer/song writer dead, move on and don't use the name. But you know there's gonna be a zillion stoned kids walking around this new tour, there's gonna be some lame moment of silence for the dead member and you're gonna hear assholes go on for 3 hours about how this band changed their lives.
All of them paying way too much to see the less impressive part of the band rehash the talented guy's work. Money talks.
Blech.

They did, they were called Long Beach Dub Allstars and no one gave a shit about them, they disbanded back in 2002, and here we are in 2009 and they suddenly dig the Sublime name up out of no where with some guy who mimics bradleys singing and guitar playing to a tee.
Fuck them, and fuck this reunion
Of course that doesn't mean tons of 16 year olds will fall for this and make them rich.

Oh, I had no idea because I never liked Sublime. So they went the new band route already and now are only digging the Sublime name up to use it for the notariaty to make money.
That's what I was afraid of and I think their older fans will probably stay away, but yes. The people who don't know or don't care will still go, so they'll make all the money they want.

Brad was great, he wasn't the best singer or guitar player ever but he was passionate about his songs. That said, I think the drum and bass made most of the songs work. Up stroking is not a hard thing to do on a guitar, but the groove is what really pushed most of their songs. So to say the rest of the band is less impressive isn't fair.
Plus whats wrong with making some fucking money. When Sublime was releasing all of their music they still weren't that big and didn't make a lot of money. These poor schmucks could probably use some dollars. I don't give a shit really, put out some new music though so you at least differentiate yourselves from the tribute band Bad Fish.

There's nothing wrong with making money, but you know damn well they're not going to approach the tour like that, being honest to their fans.
Ultimately I don't care either because I don't like them, just engaged in the discussion about a band using the name for capitol gains.

That's my point, I just dislike the dishonesty. It's America, make all the money you want but I just hope they're not going to jam some bullshit story that "This is what the dead guy would have wanted" to get fans in. Like you said, the other guys started a band, everyone knew who they were and it didn't get much attention, so they're just going back to the name and songs of Sublime for the money it will bring.

this kinda relates to the talk the other day about bands reuniting. this one is tough considering it was a trio and the singer/songwriter is dead.
here is a youtube clip of an impromptu reunion 2 days ago:

Have Sublime Reunited?
Band's remaining members performed with a new singer on Saturday.
By James Montgomery
Views 4,444
Nearly four months ago, rumors began swirling that Sublime — the celebrated Long Beach ska/punk misfits who achieved fame after the death of lead singer Bradley Nowell in 1996 — were contemplating a full-fledged reunion with a mysterious "unknown singer and guitarist" filling Nowell's spot. Well, over the weekend, at a Mexican restaurant in Sparks, Nevada, that reunion officially happened.
Of course, that sort of depends on your definition of "reunion."
Here's what we do know: On Saturday, Del Mar, a punk act featuring former Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh, took the stage at the Cantina Los Tres Hombres, a Sparks restaurant/bar (try the Burritos Grandes). After finishing the set, Gaugh then took the stage again, joined by Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and a Southern California singer by the name of Rome and began playing Sublime songs (check out a photo of the set list here), even reportedly testing out at least one new song.
The audience went crazy (here's a YouTube clip). After all, since calling it quits in '96, Sublime have had a string of hits (most notably "What I Got" and "Santeria"), sold more than 17 million albums worldwide and inspired a cottage industry of tribute acts, including Providence, Rhode Island's Badfish. But does the Cantina gig mean that Sublime are back in business? Well, according to Del Mar, the answer is "yes."
"So, Del Mar played the gig at Cantina last night ... it was packed and amazing. What really f---ing killed it was SUBLIME reuniting and playing with new singer, Rome," the band wrote on its MySpace page. "We're f---ing stoked for Bud, Eric and Rome ... Bud's still playing with Del Mar, and Sublime doesn't have any firm tour plans or anything YET, but we'll keep you posted on their progress."
That post set off a flurry of message-board activity, most of it centered on the question of whether a Sublime without Nowell actually counts as Sublime at all. "Sorry, but it's not Sublime without Brad Nowell," one PunkDisasters.com poster wrote. "That's like saying Nirvana reunited last night." Fans also wonder if this so-called reunion is just another incarnation of the Long Beach Dub Allstars, the group Gaugh and Wilson formed following Nowell's death of a heroin overdose in 1996.
And while the debate may rage, according to one person who was at the Cantina show, what he saw was very much the reincarnation of Sublime.
"They sure sounded like Sublime. It was incredible," Thad Peterson, the booker for the Cantina, told MTV News on Monday (March 2). "It was an all-around incredible show. The band was tight, and they sounded great."

i think bud gaugh's drug history played a huge part in bradleys death.
no one ever really says it but he was the one with a heroin past
i dont think eric was ever into the shooting scene
bud was in and out of the band on h binges
and i could always see him as the open door to bradleys heroin problem

Supposedly when Brad did overdose it was supposed to be his "last" time doing H because he just had a kid or some shit. Either way its too bad he's dead. If the new Sublime starts writing new stuff I dont think its as bad as just playing all of Brad shit.

I was listening to 40 oz today and it got me thinking. Everybody loves Sublime, everybody has them in their record collection...so where are all the Sublime-soundalike bands?
It took approximately 30 seconds for bands like Bush to rip off Nirvana's sound, so why aren't there more bands out there that sound like Sublime?
Calling the band Sublime is almost as heinous an act as the current "Lynyrd Skynyrd."
A pox on all of them.

Yeah, this is what I was talking about. Sublime may have come out of the 90's ska-punk scene but they definately had their own thing going. You'd think more people would try to rip them off.

Again, the late 90's. A ton of bands tried it. Horrible mishmashes of "beach music" and funk and hip-hop. Thankfully, most of them were just one-hit wonders, if that.

It's incredible how well their stuff still holds up. When the ice starts to melt they become a fixture in my rotation. Some of the best summertime sound in existence. And the perfect soundtrack with which to get high to. The Nirvana parallel is kind of uncanny in that hard drugs played pivotal roles in the "once in a generation"-voiced lead singers' demise and both had a handful of studio albums that were seamless from top to bottom. If both guys were still alive I'd like to think their integrity would still be intact and they'd still be creating greatness (Cobain especially since he seemed to be on the verge of imbuing his act with a lot more grace and soulfulness).
Also, compared to some of the other mentioned ripoffs, I didn't thing LBDAS was that bad. I saw them once live at the Warped tour where they played some S-classics and it was the next best thing to having seen them in the heyday when BN was still around.

I saw "Long Beach Short Bus" at a bar a couple years ago. They were kind of boring. The place was packed though, they had to turn people away at the door.
