View Full Version : Opie's a tool

THe fact that Opie continually admits he is an asshole proves one thing: He is an asshole. But not the type of asshole he wants to be. He whines and bitches about everything: ratings, program directors, the staff, etc... It's interesting radio for awhile but he has forgotten his core audience. How many people will continue to listen to someone whine and cry who is reportedly making a few million a year? How many people did he offend by smashing a $3,000 pinball machine? He's not the interesting ass that he proclaims that he is. He's become very predictable and irritating. I would rather listen to Al Dukes read from a dictionary at this point.

Wouldn't you be upset if some man bought you a $3000 gift just so you can say hello to him in the hallway! Opie did the right thing. He tried to tell Al the nice way and Al kept pushing and pushing until Opie finally snapped. Maybe now Al will realize that Opie doesnt want to assoicate or even say hello to him.

al dukes is an ass, he's trying to buy the respect of some one who doesn't like him or want to speak to him. let's not forget that al didn't even buy the crappy pin ball machine, he got it on loan in exchange for a couple of pluggs. opie a tool, i think not. al dukes is the tool.

Opie is an unfunny prick who needs to pick on others to entertain himself. I haven't listened to their show in a while, ever since they began to turn into Howard, and ranted for an hour on how some other show was stealing their bits. Hypocrites.

It's all a bit. I'm sure the machine did not cost 3K, and the company that supplied it gets advertising plugs in trade with the station that exceeds the price of a pinball machine.
Just my take on it.

I really feel bad for Al Dukes, but, if I were in Opies position I would be weirded out. Heres Al, who turns down $500 to date a pretty girl (who I met at the last few get togethers, what a sweet girl she is) He refuses to admit hes gay, and he goes out buying expensive gifts for a co-worker. I feel bad for Al that he feels the need to make friends with everyone he works with. Al, get over it. I hate some of my co-workers too at the racetrack. In fact, I dont even talk to some! I love ya Al, but your being an ass here, and the machine had to go. I dont think it was a bit, though. Recently I learned that a lot of stuff on 102.7 is actually real life drama being brought on the air. I could be wrong, but not everything in radio is always a bit. Just my humble opinion.

I've met Opie a few times. Trust me i'm NO ONE important, but everytime i pass him in the halls, elevator, or parking garage he says hello to me and knows me as Pantera. He always says the same thing to me "Going to Ron and Fez? Well have a good time."
He really is a nice guy unless you piss him off, just like ANYONE else.
Opie just doesn't like Al and i guess Al just doesn't like the fact that one of his bosses doesn't like him.
Trust me it's no act when Opie says he hates Al.

Opie is staying true to his character and I thank him for it. From the get-go Opie knew that Al was a little suck-up whore and that he had NOTHING to contribute to the integrity of the Ron and Fez show, as well as WNEW on a whole. Opie did the right thing, it was funny radio and I loved it. The only problem I had with it, was the aftermath it created on the R&F show. I can NOT listen to Al on the radio and the fact that it was another 4-hour Al "Dyke-U" drama really pissed me off. I have better things to do than to listen to a man-boy talk about how his feelings were hurt for four hours. When Al heard the first crash of the pinball machine, could the pounding in his chest be the agony of defeat, or of a broken heart because he is in love with Opie and refuses to admit it? :)

Look, I'm not saying I think aquiring the machine was a good plan. But first, Al never said he bought it, second, you KNOW that he was needled into it, and the idea was probably given to him by Ron & Fez. Ron probably fed him the question to Sandy, too, just as we heard them feed him the parody on the air. It was never mentioned to Opie or on O&A that they made Al sing the song- O&A played it as if AL wrote it on his own. Obviously, the bit is to set Al up- and, really, to his credit, he sucks it up b/c he thinks it helps his show.
Al has a real hard ime getting the real point of what he's thinking across, and R&F are great at making that look bad and making it funny.
Opie handled this wrong, but really, R&F probably knew he would and they exploited it. Which is what makes them great.
<br>Have a wonderful holiday season.

First of all, I barely listen to O&A. One reason: I've been listening to Stern since 1982, when he was on NBC. I have heard sooooo many of Stern's OLDER material on O&A that I'm just disgusted with hearing re-hashed "original" material. Dead giveaway: One day while I was listening to them talk about the D.C. audience, O or A said "Wake up, White... uh, Washington." ala Daniel Carver from the Stern show. This totally blew me away. I do listen sometimes, and they are funny (mostly Norton) at times, but.. I'VE HEARD THIS ALL BEFORE.
Aside from that, OPIE RULED WHEN HE SMASHED THE PINBALL MACHINE!! THAT WAS CLASSIC!! NOW THAT WAS FUNNY!!!!
Also, if anyone thinks that Al actually shelled out $3000 for that thing, you're crazy. I am SURE that he schemed his way into getting the thing in exchange for promises of "promptional consideration", or why would R&F have been spewing the guys business name so much. I believe that R&F egged Dukes on to get the machine, with the outcome being known from the outset--but MAYBE NOT TO DUKES. Dukes is a little brown-nose, who I think just put a nice big KINK in his career. He will forever be known for this "gift". I think the whole thing is great, only if they STOP TALKING ABOUT IT AFTER A FEW DAYS.
kthanxbye (I love that)

Al dukes has an unnatural "relationship" with Opie. He has since day one been trying desperately to get Opie to like him.He first fucked up by breaking the foozeball table, thus pissing off Opie even more.He got what he deserved. Al's a douche and he needs to either: 1) Leave Opie alone2) Come out of the closet3) Get Psychiatric help or4) ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!

Regarding the fact that "if it's a bit, it's been played out":
Look how many threads/messages keep coming up about the "I hate Al Dukes" or "Opie/Al Dukes" etc. angle of the show. If it had truely been played out, everyone would have been so bored with it by now, they wouldn't keep talking about it.
It's like the whole "Where are they now?" section of the show. When people stop talking about it, it's no longer funny/interesting. But as long as we all keep analyzing it, it'll keep chugging along under its own steam.

good for opie creating awesome radio. I don't think it's a bit, why would you accept a 3000 gift from another guy, a guy you don't like? o and a are not stern rip-offs, Stern has brainwashed all people into thinking everyone copys him, it's bullshit. obviously they will do bits that are similar or exact like stern, it's impossible not to. they just put a different take to it and make it their kind of comedy. you people who think they just copy must never watch movies because they are all ripping off movies before them. it's like saving private ryan is a rip off the longest day because it's a war movie. there is going to be the same material, they just use their personalities and comedy to make it different. And stern hasn't done a new bit in 15 years, o and a try new stuff everyday. so opie may be a tool, but he's one funny motherfucker who's actually real nice if you meet him.
it's true,

Just because someone is constantly mentioned and brought up does not mean that he is good or is good for the show. Criminals are constantly mentioned on the news does that mean that the world be worse off if all criminals where caught and became un-news worthy? Think a little just because AL is constantly mentioned is not a good thing. AL is a bad person and more importantly a bad Producer. Look at the Opie and Anthony message board those guy's are rough they come down hard on anyone that slips up Rick is hardly mentioned, why? because he does his job and does it well. Stop feeling sorry for AL!! he needs to be moved to a job more suitable to his personality. Fans could help make this happen.

I wasn't defending Al, merely pointing out that if we keep talking about about him, this thing is likely to continue. If R&F are keeping him around for messageboard fodder, it's working, since we keep addressing it. If everyone loses interest and stops debating it, it would go away.
As far as Al as a producer: I am unfamiliar with the hiring/firing practices of Infinity/WNEW. If they felt that he was not doing his job, I'm sure they would deal with it in the appropriate fashion. As far as bits go, I'm also tired of it.

I think Opie is truly wierded out by Al Dukes. I think before the pinball thing, he was just wierded out but now he's really mad. But mad to the point where you smash something that everyone else should be allowed to use. I didn't here this part of the story first hand but if it's true...it's gone too far. I feel that if he did do it, a minority of the reason was to get rid of Al. And a majority was as a bit. Just like Ripping Stalker Patty's gift. And just like breaking Nikki's cd. Oh wait...that cd sucked anyway. Never mind about that one...but the rest is true.
