hmmmm. I'll be happy to see Eddie Murphy acting again, but i feel like hes too big to play Richard Pryor. It would be like having Mick Jaggear play John Lennon in a Lennon biography. i dunno.

heres the AICN link

Beaks here...

In his concert film RAW, Eddie Murphy does a killer bit about trying to emulate his stand-up comedy hero, Richard Pryor, at the age of fifteen, and how his material was limited due to his decided lack of life experiences. "My whole act back then was about taking a shit because that's all I had done at fifteen." If you've never seen it, go find it. (I won't embed or link to it here because RAW is a Paramount title. It'll just be disappeared within the hour.)

The entire routine is quotable, but the key line is this: "I wanted to be Richard so bad." Well, Eddie, now you are.

HitFix and Entertainment Weekly are reporting that Fox Searchlight will finance Bill Condon's $25 million biopic RICHARD PRYOR: IS IT SOMETHING I SAID?, for which Murphy will waive his usual eight-figure fee in order to play his lifelong idol. According to HitFix, Condon's screenplay also features significant roles for Pryor's four wives and Redd Foxx. Murphy as Pryor is mindblowing enough; I don't know who the hell you get for Foxx.

This is a fascinating development for several reasons. I don't know where things stood when Pryor passed, but he definitely had a complicated relationship with the young superstar. Murphy, however, was always quick to praise Pryor, so I'm sure he will throw his considerable talents into doing right by the man many consider the greatest stand-up comedian of all time.

If all goes according to plan, the film will begin production this summer and hit theaters in 2010. I cannot wait to see how this turns out.

Dude, his films make money. Can't deny that.

They are either family-friend tripe or tie into his sexual fantasies, but they make money.

I think he could pull this off. I thought he was great in Dreamgirls and deserved the Oscar for that role. He's probably studied Pryor enough where he could do justice to his mannerisms. I'll be looking forward to this one.

I think its the perfect choice. Itll be nice to see him in an R Rated movie again.

But I really dont know who you get to play Redd Foxx. Thats a tough one.

i think Eddie Murphy is considered the biggest comedy star of all time if you include the "Shrek" movies (i could be wrong but i don't think i am)

Eddie Murphy was a part of Pryor's life too..as a mindfuck they should have Chris Rock play Eddie Murphy.

Theres a moment in every biopic that drives me nuts. Its when they dramatically reveal the thing we know them from. Like, in this one it would be like "Richard, what are you going to call this movie you are writing? Racist Jokes and Cowboys?" "Actually, I was thinking of calling it (dramatic pause) Blazing Saddles" or "I'm just going to smoke a little crack now, its not like I'm going to get (dramatic pause) caught on fire or anything"

I think its the perfect choice. Itll be nice to see him in an R Rated movie again.

Jaime Foxx. Thats how he got his name, after Redd. Jaime Foxx's real name is Eric Bishop

That reminds me of one of my favorite douchey moments. I love when a a bad film has the scene where they say the title in the dialogue. You can almost hear the hayseeds say "Oh thats why they named the film that".

I didn't say his films don't make money, I didn't even say he wouldn't be good for the role, I was simply implying he isn't as big as he once was. I mean come on, how much money did Meet Dave actually gross? Game, set, and match.

Isn't Murphy a little old for this? I checked, he's going to be 48 in April. Shouldn't they get someone in their 20's so they can play Pryor from his teens on? They should have Murphy play Redd Foxx.

The same thing happened with 45 year old Kevin Spacey playing a young Bobby Darin.

If he was a white guy you'd have a better arguement, Black don't crack.

I know I'm kind of splitting hairs, but I just hate what he has become SO much.

Also what were these 100 mil movies that he ACTED in between pluto Nash and meet dave?
