As I was talking to my coworkers yesterday, I mentioned how I think of certain items as the prices I grew up on. For instance, in my mind, a can of soda or a candy bar is 50 cents, even though I consciously know it's more and pay more for them.

Are there things you guys think of being at the prices you grew up with them being?

Seems like a 2 liter of coke was $.99 in the early 80's and I see that it is the same price sometimes now.

I remember a Coke machine we always went to was 25 cents. Then I remember when Coke was doing their "Have A Coke And A Smile" marketing blitz; you would scratch of the plastic inside the bottle-top and get a word of the slogan, like Have or Coke. The non-existent word was Smile. I forget what the prize was Everybody had "Have A Coke And A ". We could get these bottles of Coke for 37 cents. Candy bars were 20 cents. One dollar and you were set. I also remember when cigarettes were a dollar a pack. And we could get veggie Whoppers for fifty cents.

the retro cereal thread a couple weeks ago made me think about this. all the spectacle of the SAVE $.07!!! ads made me recall a time when blowhard and bay city rollers ruled the school. like seven cents is a big deal and it was actually two coupons, one for two cents and one for five.

My school lunch was 75 cents. I used to hate it when my Dad made me take penny rolls to pay. I hate to think how many penny rolls it'd take to pay for school lunch now. (Oh, and a Tab from the Coke machine cost 25 cents.) I feel old now....

When i was in Jr. HS. During lunch we would go to the near by pizzeria, and for a $1 a cup of soda and a slice.

But come to think of it the pizza sucked.

Your dad would save up pennies? Is he Jewish?

All the stores I grew up around figured tax into their price already, so whatever was on the price tag ($.99) was exactly what it cost ($.99). I really miss that.

Salad dressing packets for the pre-made salads they sell at Wawa or other convenience stores. They used to be free back in the day, now most places give one free packet (which is never enough) and charge you 30 cents for each additional packet.
