View Full Version : What's with the lack of price checkers?

I've noticed an ever increasing trend in the stores where I cannot find scanners between the aisles to check the prices of things in the stores. I was in Walmart today and a few others and it was as if they had ripped them all off the walls. The same in Target, Kohls, and others that had them up. I also noticed most stores are also not listing the prices on the shelves for things. Is there a reasoning for why they are doing this?

I've also noticed a lack of scanners in local Walmarts and Targets. My guess: As they break, they don't get replaced.

Why are you scanning prices in a Wal-Mart or a Target?
No matter what it costs it's too much for that piece of crap.

target's a great store.
people are animals, that's why the scanners get ripped down. and the employees would much rather you scan a product than waste their time with your petty concerns.

i haven't seen a price checker in years. i don't think i've seen one since the 90s
i guess they want you to just blindly pick up an item and pay for it and not be turned off by prices. If I wanna buy something, like granola bars or something stupid, i don't even look at the prices. can't be bothered

I think that the people who have to put shit back that people leave at the price checkers sabotage the machines, because they do not want to keep going to a pile of stuff at the machine. Either that or the store believes you will carry the items up to the register and ask the price and then feel too awkward to say you do not want it and you end up buying more shit.

if i don't notice them, how would i know if they are there or not?
I say they remove some of them so you have to travel deeper into the store and that way you pass more impulse items on the end caps. Also for stores that size they usually hire people that their entire job is to put the price labels on the shelves and in these times it's probably more cost effective to let them go and let the customers figure it out. Most superstores do not put prices on the items 1)because it's more cost effective to label the shelf once then to repeatedly tag each item and 2) this way they can change the price on the fly if demand changes.
