The start of the debate re: drug usuage:
can we get some number on people using/abusing sleeping pills and the like? ron constantly acts like everyone is using, but i don't see it.
Ron doesnt seem to understand that there are people who dont take drugs. Im not one of them...but this lady has a point.
No, the lady(and probably you) doesn't understand that most people do take drugs.
Most people do NOT take drugs !!!!!
Factoid: That's less than 10 percent of the American population.
No they dont.
Anyone that says the majority of the country is on drugs is a dumb bastard.

I think that caller was trying to do a Dave joke. It sounded like he said "It's better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved a dog."
Sometimes I love someone so much that I need to go to AshleyMadison.com for some strange.
I'm very compassionate that way.

As I understand the way the Calvinists, who came up with this concept, dealt with this paradox is by saying you could tell who the "elect" -- i.e. the ones going to heaven -- were by the way they acted. So the "elect" act like they're supposed to.
Which means you've at least gotta put on the act.
But it's bizarre. Dave goes on and on about what a good Catholic is, but he's advocating a very Protestant position.

Religion and god are just a way to frighten people into being good and to be honest it is a form of child abuse. It's also a way of getting suckers in the pew to pay for bibles and what not.
Forcing children to sit in church hearing about hell and damnation and how if you are good you will be rewarded and if you are bad you will burn in hell is just wrong.
This call could end the trend.
It was close but I believe he pulled out of the nosedive at the last minute, whew......

To me, the notion of a God that would sentence someone to eternal damnation makes absolutely no fucking sense. What could any of us do to deserve burning in fire forever? Shit, does even Hitler deserve that?
It's the oldest carny act ever, left over from an age when we had no scientific knowledge and blaming/crediting gods for shit seemed to make sense. And I think we need to abandon that sort of thinking if we are to advance.

if god set up all the dominoes in the universe then he did so knowing what the result would be.. even if 15 billion years into the future. if he wanted you not to kill your wife, he would have set up the dominoes differently.

Agreed. When I travel, I use Roadfood.com (http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurants/) and Yelp.com (http://www.yelp.com/dc) to find places to eat.

My place is like that. To my direct north is a sea of chain restaurants, while if I head south I have a bunch of mom & pop joints. All within a 1.5 mile radius.

True that.
Even my shitty little hometown, population roughly 10K, has an Applebees, a Ruby Tuesdays, 2 Starbucks, and a Cracker Barrel now. The little local restaurants I remember growing up are gone.

isn't travel more than just food? it's not like people aren't seeing sights and enjoying these places just because they want the comfort of food they know. why begrudge them that? also, a lot of folks travel for business, not pleasure, so they're not lookign for some adventure. heck, it could be more that travel for work than fun.

My girl and I go to Fridays all the time. She likes the booths. I told her when I get my tax return that I'd splurge and hit Red Lobster.

This is why people still believe in religion and the bible, we give up all of our individuality for comfort and safety. Every area of the country is churning out the same shopping malls and products (Target, Walmart). Read 1984 for a bit of insight of what is happening to the entire world; It made sense then, and still does today. People still hold, and selectively quote from, these "holy" books in order to justify their awful existence.
That guy is right. McDonald's is much better overseas.
(I ate there in Doha because it's one of the few places open during weekend prayer.)

Carbonite saved my ass yesterday. I had to wipe my hard drive after Windows shit the bed, and I was unable to back up my resume before I did that. But I'd backed it up to Carbonite, and when my computer was back up and running, I was able to go onto my Carbonite backup drive and get it from there.
Carbonite should pay me what they just paid Fezzie.

The other thing is that people are looking for consistency. If you are traveling you don't know whats the local great place vs the local ptomaine palace and with a chain you know you will get something you can eat versus who knows what
