The big show stars at 8:30 pm on ABC with your host Hugh Jackman.

I'm more excited than any straight man should be. I watch more movies than anyone and tonight is the culmination of awards season. I'm a big fan of it all.

My winners predictions are Slumdog, Penn, Hathaway in an upset, Ledger, Viola Davis.

I think Jackman is a pretty talented dude and he supposedly did a good job hosting the Tony awards last year.

Let's get this show started already, there isn't a star to be seen yet.

Yeah, I'm hearing enough good stuff about this movie to check it out. There have been a couple of Allen movies lately that I think got overpraised because people wanted Woody to do a good movie so badly. ("Match Point" springs to mind here.) This one seems like the real deal though.

I really hate the self-congratulatory bullshit of the Oscars, but this kind of brings up a good point, in that I don't think that most people know really how complicated and hard it is to actually make a movie. i think they are drawing from the Mamma Mia musical aspect of the Oscars this year.
it WAS an enormous hit and the musical is insanely successful.

also... it caters to the showmanship of Jackman... he is a dynamic performer.
plus... it breaks up the monotony of "another awards show".
the Oscars have suffered in recent years... they need a successful show tonight, both ratings and review-wise.
