Just a heads up.
Say goodbye to the Masturbating Bear, Triumph, Pimpbot and all the other characters that won't fly at 11:30.

Is anyone going to watch Fallon? I want to at least see The Roots on there so I'll probably record a few. I wonder how this experiment will work out.

They've been playing some of their best bits ever and this might be my favorite. I LOL'd multiple times.

this a little sad. i was a big conan head for years in high school and college, tough to see him go to LA.
I was a huge fan of Conan's a while back. I'm not looking forward to the inevitable toning down of his weird sense of humor for the new time slot.

I love his sense of humor and I hope it doesn't get too muted at 1130. I'll def miss him being in NY too. 16 years was a good run though.

Yeah, it was quick. Maybe just one drum beat, but both strings.
I really let my Conan watching slide the past few years, but I'm glad I caught this show.
The old timey baseball thing was probably the funniest thing he ever did;
when that lady said her father was dead, Conan's reaction was so genuine, it was priceless.
I always loved when he had a "guest" on the big screen; Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, George Bush, etc, with their mouths cut out and (usually) the same writer doing the voices. My ex girlfriend used to get pissed when I'd be up, literally giggling at "that nonsense".

I used to loooove Conesy.
I never missed an episode... even the reruns... for about 10 years. A few years ago, I kinda outgrew it. He really DOES do the same show, with the same jokes, with the same gags, with the cadence, delivery, and timing every single night.
This last week or two was a great stroll down memory lane. The montages and highlights were a lot of fun to watch but... it's definitely time for Conan to move on. The autopilot has officially taken over.

wasn't that all Robert Schmeigl? He is Triumph, too off course. Just such an amazing ability to think on his feet, that's where most of the humor of both of those things comes from. I think I saw the geust one with Clinton where he was eating a burrito during the interview.

Yeah, that was all Smigel.
I'm glad the old timey baseball clip showed up at the end. I was baffled as to how it wasn't getting remmbered as one of his best, but then it turns out to be his favorite, which is awesome. Easily my favorite Conan moment.

Exactly.
That's why I'm not fully upset that The Adam Carolla Show got dropped yesterday. I listened to Adam for years on LL and The Man Show (and everything else), then he got the show in LA and he mixed it up a bit. Now, after 3+ years, he's gonna move onto feature films & uncensored podcasting.
I'm never bored with The Aceman. Ever.
Wish I could say the same for Stewart, Cone, and Stern.

The band is going. Supposedly all of the major writers and producers have all been asked or offered jobs on the new show. Hopefully Smigel will be by to contribute.
I'd love if it if they pulled a huge stunner and Andy was back fulltime when the new show starts. I know it'll never happen, but it would be awesome.
Did Joel have a stroke or something? He's obviously still announcing, but I swear it's been years since I've actually seen him on the show. Maybe I just missed all of his appearances over the last 2-3 years.

Yeah, he hasn't sounded quite as "big" as he did in the past in recent years. His Wiki page doesn't say anything about a medical condition, but it does say he is going to the new show.
Wow, I forgot Conan's first musical guest was Radiohead. First band on is Radiohead and the last is the White Stripes? Now that's pretty fucking cool.

Conan announced on Thursday's show that the entire band is headin' west with him.
Personally... I could do without that band. I think they suck. They're so damn white & tight and have ZERO versatility. Every so often, a sketch will call for them to play disco, or hard rock, or whatever.... and it neverrr sounds authentic. Ever.

Well, they are what they are. Fuck versatility. They're there as a jump swing band or whatever. They're great at what they do and they have personality as a whole or individually and most of them are fucking funny as hell. Give me them over Leno's snoozeband or Paul Schaeffer's yes man-ing any day.

I feel ya.
We seem to especially disagree on most things NBC/Late night related. Odd.
Have you ever been to tapings of the show?
The band plays through the commercials and you hear them go from transition to transition. It ain't good. The re-arranged rock & pop tunes just don't sound right. Like I said... it's extremely white.
I go swing dancing at a place called Swing46 (here in manhattan) and the band there sounds TOTALLY authentic to me. Those boys can pop.
The MW7 seems so stiff.
Their eye contact and telepathy is, without question, amazing. No argument there. But their FEEL is way off. I don't feel a pulse. Their rock tunes sound almost humorous (sp?) and their swing set is pure bleach.
Having said all that, I'd be happy to bring you to a taping of Fallon if you're interested. I think we can all agree that The Roots can crush. (you're local, right? let's chat off the thread about it in a week or two)

Eubanks was only there as Leno's "out" if he did a race-related joke. Leno would do a racially-tinged joke, cut to Eubanks laughing, and everything's OK.

I completely disagree. They really are versatile band. Have you heard them live or just as background on tv? I've heard them back up springsteen, southside johnny, sam moore, jesse malin, bon jovi, and gary us bonds where they played gospel, rock, soul, swing, etc. They can play whatever genre they want and they sound good doing it. Plus also back up alot of music acts on conan.
They are essentially the Asbury Park Jukes. So put on a southside johnny record or a springsteen bootleg from 88 and you will see a different side to that band.

^^ This. The fun thing about that band is how often they will be playing a song back from commericial that is completely a obscure hit song from 80's, 90's etc. It's a complete oversight by most who aren't listening but I've heard them come back from break playing everything from the Grateful Dead to Blink 182.
