Is there a way to calculate numbers that are on a pdf. document?

See if you can select the text on the .pdf using the Text Select tool.

If so, you should be able to copy and paste onto an Excel spreadsheet, and calculate away.

if you cut and paste into excel, you will create a picture in your spreadsheet and will not be able to manipulate the data.

There is software available that converts the data into usable excel info- just search for "convert .pdf to excel" you should be able to find something.

If you can capture the text, you can put it into Excel.

Alternately, if you have Acrobat and not Reader, you can try saving the file down to *rtf or *txt and then importing the resultant file into Excel. Use "Save As" and select the format you're going to try.

If you have special characters (i.e. - diacritic marks like umlauts and accents, etc.) the text capture may not work so well.

If the save doesn't work and the text capture (using the text select tool) doesn't work, you have to download the PaperCapture plug-in from Adobe.com to get a "readable" PDF document. This may fuck up special characters and will often screw with regular characters, like apostrophes and dollar signs, which kind of blows, but it'll give you a workable file.

That's it? You're not going to let us know if it worked for you or not?

What a ripoff.

True if it's a scanned copy of a document saved as a .pdf.

But if an autocad, word, or other document is saved straight to .pdf format, the text is usually selectable, and you're able to copy and paste the data into a spreadsheet.

The only limitation is that if you're copying a table, or text from several columns, it will copy each line, and paste all of the data from each column into one excel cell.

But at least it gives you a starting point.

You can get around the scanned document issue by downloading PaperCapture.

I've done it and it works, albeit imperfectly.
