My son won a Wii last year we hooked it up and to be honest after about 20 minutes of basic play it was mastered. He bought a few games but after a short time he packed it up and sold it on ebay. He has other game systems so its not an anti gaming thing. It actually appeals quite nicely to my 13 yo nephew who has Downs Syndrome. im not trying to be a prick here I would like to know what is the fascination? It hasnt seemed to lose its momentum.

How about a little tutorial?

My wife plays it. It's fun to play drunk. It's extremely easy to just pick up and play.

If you're really into gaming, it's probably not the system for you.

If you like getting wasted and playing dumb mini games, or like playing a video game with your chick, it rules.

it is the best game system for people who do not really like video games. I have one with a couple games. it is really fun when people are at your house and you are drinking, you can flip it on and make up some drinking games. it is fun competition because there is no real learning curve for most of the games.

biggest gimmick ever . . . and poorly executed at that.

Poorly executed to the best selling game system.....

Don't knock it because it doesn't appeal to you.

I know family's where the grandparents get in on the wii bowling, etc.

Hell, there was no such thing as family gaming before the wii

Its only riding on the Nintendo name brand. Both the NES and the SNES have sold more consoles.

The Wii has been out for like 3 years.

And it has sold better than the PS3 and Xbox.

It really works for me because it is something that I can play with my 6 year old son. Also, my wife hates video games, but this console seems to get her attention.

I really love the major platforms, but with young children it is hard to find the time to play them.

Bingo. I am buying one because I want something my husband and I can play together. I really hate all the games on the other systems that you have to take a damn college course to play and enjoy. I just want something easy and entertaining. I think they succeeded in doing both of those.

you can not just sit down and play GTA or even most fighting games with all the crazy combos they have. wii you can sit down, pick up and a controller and it less then 5 mins be pretty good at a game

I am a big computer gamer but the Wii just fascinates me. The method in how the controller is used in itself is fascinating. I have a couple of games, like others said; it is fun to play while drunk. My nearly 2 year old nephew gets a kick out of playing baseball and boxing on it. Also, it is just a nice break from the norms of computer gaming.

It's the ideal system for casual gamers. The controllers are infinitely easier to use than those for the other popular systems, and the best games are simple and can be played by several people. Plus it gives you the added bonus of not sitting on your ass for hours on end while you play video games.

I plan on buying the wii only because it's something that my fiancee will play. Also something for my young niece to play. I prefer gaming on the pc and will build one in the near future to suit my needs.

THe Wii for me is a great gaming console when you want to have fun and not get too hooked on a game. I already pay WoW ( World of Warcraft) and it's addicting enough. I am also into Zelda and everything Zelds so I had to have the Wii. I think getting a Wii has a lot more to do with brand loyalty then anything. I have had every Nintendo system so far and most liking will get the next one that comes out as well.

I also have xbox 360 for adult games like BioShock and COD. And a PS2.

It's not a big deal to not like the Wii so don't sweat it.

That is the dumbest thing I have read in about 6 months. I have not had one problem with my Wii and think the feel of game play is wonderful. Just the sword play in Zelda alone is one of the coolest things to happen in gaming to date.

My nieces got one for xmas and the younger one, she's 6, loves it.
She also consistently beat me at boxing and tennis.
It was so annoying to sit there and get my ass kicked by a child
after spending a good 20 years of my life playing video games.

So fuck the Wii, I want my manhood back.

It's a great system if you find the right games.

The problem is that most people don't.

The games that get all the publicity are the 'casual gamer' games, and when people trash the system, it's usually based on them.

But there's great shooters, adventure games, and platformers for the system. While it can't stack up graphically to a 360 or a PS3, I would stack the gameplay of games like Resident Evil 4, Call of Duty: WaW, Medal of Honor 2, and Godfather versus the ports for the other systems EASILY.

It doesn't compare.

On a controller system, you methodically use the analog sticks and buttons to shoot. With the Wii, you aim the Wiimote and fire.

It's much more fun.

The one knock on the Wii is that there's no good RPGs yet, and for how innovative the motion control was suppose to be, there's only a couple good sports games. They haven't perfected baseball, basketball or hockey with the Wiimote yet.

The best games on Wii are better than the best games on 360 and PS3.

360 probably has deeper catalog of games. But if you find the right games, the gameplay on Wii is much better.

No way. The bowling game is tons of fun, as are several of the baseball games. A friend of mine has a dodgeball game for his that's insanely fun with 4 people playing.

Truth. Twilight Princess, No More Heroes, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, etc. are some of the best games you can only get on the Wii.

Explain the appeal of video games (after the age of 14) in general to me.
It's a generational thing. Old folks played cards, dice, dominoes and shit as kids and teens. Gen-X'ers and younger poker, video games etc. Video games though have really caught on with Gen-X and later as opposed to kids who grew up with Pong because the technology has taken off so much in the last 20 years it's amazing. Games are themed towards a more adult mindset like GTA or KILLZONE as opposed to Burger Time or whatever. A 20 year old playing Donkey Kong back in the day would be kinda' pathetic but a 20 year old now playing GTA or COD is completely acceptable. So nowadays there are more mature games to play along the way and you're not stuck playing Dig Dug or whatever alongside 10 year olds looking like a loser.

And most if not all chicks will still fuck you now if you're 25 and play video games. That's a big factor too.
