my computer has been acting wacky at times
i'll get a message that nView has detected a problem
and then everything gets really sluggish
and i get a loud whirring sound from the computer
i restart the computer and all is well for 6 hours

nView is related to the program called
NVIDIA drivers
which does something with the icons on the desktop
i have read that NVIDIA is not a necessary program
unless you are on a network
and i am not

i deleted NVIDIA by going to 'remove programs'
but two things happened:

1- the icons on the desktop, and in fact all the script sizes, got very LARGE and
2- When I rebooted the computer, NVIDIA was still there

So, I went to restore and got it back to where it was and the script sizes and icons are right

anyone have any experience with this?
can i safely remove NVIDIA, and if so how?

thank you for any direction.

Nvidia is your graphics card chipset manufacturer.

The reason you are getting large icons when you uninstall it is becuase you are deleting you graphic setting when you get rid of it.

You can also go to Device mamger and go to "video adaptor"(orsomething like that)

Then in the above menu with all the icons there will be one with an arrow up. )if you hover over them you will be able to find out which they are)

You will need it to say update driver or Look for update version of drivers.

Click that and if that does not find anything. Try to find out what card you have then go to nvidias website for an updated driver for your card.

You dont really need any drivers for that either. Unless you you game or do slight image editing on your pc. Plus with out it you wont be able to go over 1280x1024 resolution.

check these out.

in your first link, this option is mentioned at the end:

You can just turn nView off in control panel/nVidia,nView/Disable.

i didn't even realize it was in the control panel...duh

i just disabled it and will see what happens.

thank you, mexi, for the excellent explanation and links!

I am primarily a NVIDIA guy. One thing you can do is a custom installation of the software and pick and choose what to install.

I use the hell out of the software that comes with the NVIDA package for several reasons, mainly though for gaming and watching high def movies.
