View Full Version : Which path should baseball take?

Major League Baseball used to comprise two separate leagues. the differences between the two were emphasized with the introduction of the DH in the early 1970s.
Now with the introduction of interleague play during the regular season, the distinctions have become more and more blurred.
I think the two-league dichotomy as it stands now needs to be abolished at this point; they don't act like two separate leagues anymore, but the question is, what form should MLB take?
- should the two leagues merge into one league and all teams play by the same rules (either all teams adopt or reject the DH)?
- should they retreat to the earlier form that had the two leagues only meet at the all star game and world series, abolishing interleague play?
- pee in Bud Selig's butt?

I think we should replace the players with robots.

It should've been a poll option.

I'd rather go back to 2 leagues, no divisions, 2 league champs play in the world series.
Tired of inferior teams getting hot and winning the world series, making the 162 game regular season less important.

Keep it as is.
Nothing is funnier than watch AL pitchers try to hit.

I'd merge the two leagues and create 5 divisions with no DH:
Northeast Division:
Boston Red Sox
New York Yankees
New York Mets
Philadelphia Phillies
Baltimore Orioles
Washington Nationals
Southeast Division
Atlanta Braves
Florida Marlins
Tampa Bay Rays
Houston Astros
Texas Rangers
Heartland Division
Pittsburgh Pirates
St. Louis Cardinals
Kansas City Royals
Cincinnati Reds
Colorado Rockies
Arizona Diamondbacks
Great Lakes Division
Toronto Blue Jays
Cleveland Indians
Detroit Tigers
Chicago Cubs
Chicago White Sox
Minnesota Twins
Milwaukee Brewers
Pacific Division
San Diego Padres
LA Dodgers
LA Angels
SF Giants
Oakland Athletics
Seattle Mariners
I try to keep rivalries where possible, although I know I've broken up Cincinnati/Cleveland (how big a rivalry that really is, I'll leave for the fans of those two teams to answer), but it would approximate this. Also I know that not all divisions have the same number of teams. but I think this makes more geographical sense.
then playoffs would be the division champs plus one wild card, making 6 teams. top two teams get a first round bye, and the remaining 4 play a best of 3 series. then the top two seeds play the winners of the first round in a best of 5, then the world series in a best of 7.
No more interleague play, and abolish the DH.
And don't even THINK of adding more wild cards.

If I wanted to see a pitcher hit... I'd go visit Chuck Finley at home.

Well according to skyscraper's league realignment... Bugs would be in your division.

I want to make the league more interesting.
I think both leagues DH and more wild cards.

I like it with the interleague and wildcard the way it is....the only thing I would change is the designated hitter. Seriously...if you aren't good enough to play in the field, you aren't good enough to play baseball.
