Mac Users: AIM v. iChat

I've been using iChat since I got my laptop like 4 years ago, and I recently went back to AIM. I like being able to make my text in different fonts and colors. iChat is nice, but I feel it stifles me artistically. What say you?

but i agree i like havin more options....as clearly i like to post in pink so u can imagine how my IM's look

I use Pidgin for Windows, and it is one of the best around. They have a MAC version. (http://pdb.finkproject.org/pdb/package.php/pidgin) Basic ad-free replacement with tons of add-ons and plug-ins.

I could never get used to iChat either, and I really don't like the latest version of AIM for Mac.

I still use 4.7 because it still has the classic look that I'm used to.

I'm with you on AIM for Mac - it sucks. It always opens a new tab in my Firefox browser when I log on. I'm back to using 4.7 as well.

Adium is just as annoying as iChat. I don't want to have to learn a whole new system to tell who's available, who's idle, who's on their cell, etc.

people mobile have an icon of a phone next to their name.....available are in white with my present plug in, away are grayed out.

you can combine all of one persons contact into ONE contact, i.e. Jen has yahoo, aim, icq, all three contacts for all three accounts are represented by one contact.

its got a ton of plug ins.

sadly if you need file transfers its buggy, i use ftp between my friends.

Folks, listen I work tech support for a company that makes webcams and I have to deal with people trying to use AIM and IChat.

Between a PC and a MAC it just isnt worth it. Stop being backwards asses and just use SKYPE already.

Adium is what I use and I am happy that it has a lot of customization that you can do. I had mine looking like a barn the other day. Aduim is just fun to use and fun to mess with.
