I'm posting this from my phone so as there is no confusion.
So my laptop got all messed up about an hour or so ago while I was in the chat room. I ran ad aware and it cleaned out some crap. But my comp was still running slow and firefox kept crashing.
I saw in another thread about the virus and saw the recommendation for ccleaner. I ran that and it cleared out a bunch more stuff.
My computer seemed to be back to normal and FF didn't crash at the sites like it had before. Now the only problem seems that I can not log into rf.net. After putting in the info and submit it just says waiting on rf.net.
Any suggestions on a next step?

I had to run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on my computer to get rid of it.
But if what you ran says its gone then I don't know. That chat room is the devil. Anything we can do about it?

Hey weeka, I thought you hated the chat room? I can never get in anymore, but my computer is old and outdated. I hope to get a new one soon. Will the chat fuck it up though?

I'd been in a few times and wasn't a problem. And who knows if chat actually caused it but it was up at the time and needed to blame something.
I noticed a few other websites would time out if I had to put a user name and password in.
Please help.

can you get to the board using IE? If so, then I would recommend uninstalling Firefox - however, google "uninstal firefox completely" for detailed instructions on how to really get it all out because add/remove will take out the app but not your prefs or settings. Once it's totally gone then go ahead and reinstall the latest FF and if you had any extentions install them ONE AT A TIME and make sure inbetween installing them that you can still get to the site.
Now if IE doesn't let you on the site either, you can try using chrome or opera to make sure its something not browser-based - if none of those work then I'd run a bunch of virus scan/adware scan apps.
Worst case you'll need to reinstall XP but that's not always a bad thing.

Yeah, clearing everything and starting all over is never really [I]that [/I ]bad when you're talking XP. I try to do it every 2-3 years with Windows machines.

Alright, so IE does not let me log in either. I reinstalled FF and that didn't work either.
I had to reboot XP a few months ago and really don't want to go through the hassle again unless it is a last resort.
Any other suggestions? Any are appriciated

Ok, maybe I can get a little help this time.
So I hadn't turned my comp on in several days cause it has been pissing me off. Turn it on today and when it boots up ad aware pops on saying it has detected something and needs to run a scan. It comes up with some cookies and a malware thing.
Its Win32Tr\.\erAgent
When I run the "perform actions now" it says it has safely cleaned the files and to restart to make sure all files are deleted. But when it reboots, the same thing keeps popping up.
I also ran CCleaner and I hasn't removed this thing. Is there anything short of re installing windows or is that the only thing that is going to work?
Please help.

restart in safe mode, run it again. but before you do it, right click on my computer and turn off system restore
I'd download Spyware Terminator (http://www.spywareterminator.com/download/download.aspx) (it's free), update the software and run the scan for removal. It's really godd at detection and removal and I've used it a number of times.

Thanks. But I'm an idiot, how do I start in safe mode? One of the F keys?
Nevermind. I got it.

when the PC starts up, just keep tapping the F8 key. You'll see the option appear.

I did all of this but when I ran ad aware it said it found nothing. When I restarted in normal mode, it found the same things as before.

Same here. It was the only one out of several programs that got rid of it.

I ran this and it took out some trojans. But the ad aware keeps finding that same type of file.

I downloaded that program but once I install it, it won't open.
