I started to re watch Extras the other day, and believe that I like it more than The Office.
Really, really hilarious show. And I love The Office, I'm just not a big fan of the Tim and Dawn storyline.
Plus, Extras was able to branch out more, and have better storylines. And, Ricky's acting was much better (he was AMAZING in the finale).

Still love the Office, but I think Extras was definitely his better work.

I'll give you the acting in the finale, but he pretty much played the same character. I loved Dawn and Tim because I actually rooted for those people which I've never done before.

The height of both shows was Brent dancing on Red Nose day so I give the edge to The Office.

You should add the podcast as an option. Pilkington might carry some votes with that head like a fucking orange.

Extras had the better finale, but the Office is better overall as a series. Gareth and Finchy are great characters, David Brent is far more entertaining than Andy Millman, and every episode is great. Extras had some episodes that weren't particularly interesting, like the one with Ross Kemp.

However, if it were an option, I might have to vote for "When The Whistle Blows."

I'll agree with you that the Office had a better cast, I just never got caught up in the love story. Tim is fantastic. I still crack up just hearing him say "Hat FM".
I also find Maggie from Extras oddly hot.

Don't know how to add poll options, but you're right.

PLIKERS!!! I'm going with the podcast. David Brent's dance "I sort of fused Flashdance with some MC Hammer shit" is really the highlight of the office. The finale of Extras was my favorite episode but it's such a downer that my vote goes to Karl, who, even when he's a down he's hilarious.

I voted for "Extras." But, I love Martin Freeman on the "Office." When he would look at the camera like he was asking for help.
Both are great shows.

I voted for Extras and agree the Podcasts should be an option. All 3 are fucking fantastic.

I'm a huge fan of his but apparently I'm missing something because I've never heard the podcasts. I guess I need to get them!

I voted for The Office just because I can watch that show over and over (which I've done) and it's still funny. Also, I'm a chick so I LOVED the Tim and Dawn thing and how they ended up together and how David Brent stood up for himself at the end. It was perfect.

still haven't watched the office -- have the whole set, but i'm saving it for a rainy day

adore extras, still haven't seen the final episode (same reasons as above)

love karl, but ricky on the podcasts can get a little hacky -- his rapport with karl reminds me of O&A with spaz (karl was really good on some of russel brand's first shows)

I loved both but voted for the Office because I can't remember a sinle episode that didn't have me in stiches. Also (and I'm sure this is what he was going for), Extras got a slight minus from me because several of Maggie's scenes (especially when she wasn't with Andy) literally made me sad for her. Maybe that technically gives Extras more depth than just the constant cringeworthiness of the Office, but I wasn't a big fan of the "bummer" scenes in Extras.

I gave The Office my vote for overall quality, but the home stretch and finale for Extras was absolutely fantastic.

Im stunned at how close this poll is. Extras is good and funny but The Office is pure brilliance. There would be no Extras without The Office. Plus I like the documentary feel of the Office so much better.

I recognize that the Office is a better show, and near perfect, but personally I prefer Extras because of Maggie.

The British Office is the best TV show of all time. Extras was great but the Office stands supreme

I loved The Office and Coupling.
I never saw Extras, maybe I need to catch up on that cause the clip looks pretty damn funny.

I never saw UK Office. My answer is, ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH? ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH?

Good call on Coupling, the first couple of seasons were really good.

For anyone who likes Brit TV, there are some amazing comedy "quiz shows". Try out Mock the Week (start with the Too Hot For TV, which is uncensored outtakes), Q.I., and 8 out of 10 cats. They are all the same premise, one main host (Dara Obriain for Mock the Week; Jimmy Carr for cats; and the great Stephen Fry for QI), and there are two panels of three comedians who "compete" for fake points. QI and Mock the Week are brilliant, and cats is usually very good too.

Just a taste:

Sorry, a bit of a derail, but I'm addicted to these shows almost as much as I have been to Office and Extra's. I love my Brit TV!

It's a toss up but I ended up putting Extras. I have changed my mind. I love Extras but I think it gets bogged down a bit by Ricky Gervais's hatred of his own celebrity status. He really does see himself as the guy in "When the Whistle Blows" who has to put on the silly wig and say the stupid catch phrase. His real self-loathing weighs his Extra character down a bit too much.

I respect his disgust at UK/US celebrity worship and Extras does a good job of mocking Celebrity Big Brother and the entertainment business. I just think David Brent is a funnier character than the extra who sold his soul in Extras.

They are both great, though. Tough decision.
