silly windows users!

Even my bootcamped mac running vista suffers no problems.

On a side note,

I've experimented with putting Debian on my mac on a third partition. It works pretty well, but there a re lots of compatibility issues with the hardware.

why would you get a mac?

I have never had a problem with MY pc's.

Other than outdating. For some reason though my friends that dont know much about pcs usually get viruses on them.

But if you run Firefox with script block, flashblock, adblockplus. and you mind the websites you go on and not be retarded you should never have a problem. Ever.

and run an antivirus and watch what illegal things you dl.

I have a pc too. It's my HTPC. I only use it for those specific functions. Everywhere I've worked used macs and I've used them since I was a kid too. It's just easier for me go with a mac. Plus, i want to be an elitist.

I've never had any problems with any of my PCs either. But, I built them so...

Maybe your bookmark file is corrupt. I had the same problem with Firefox 3 . It would delete all my bookmarks when I shut it down. I use the FEBE extension to back up my profile or I would have lost everything .

This worked for me :
1. Enter about:config in the Location Bar
2. In the Filter box, type browser.places
3. Context-click (right-click) any preference with a user-set status (e.g., browser.places.importBookmarksHTML)
4. Click "Reset".

FireFox is in my opinion and that of independent sources a more secure browser than IE. PC Tools is like Norton or any other security software, always rated amongst the top two security suites by independent sources. This year though Norton gained the top ranking because they revamped their software so it is not so much of a resource hog and is rated by AV labs to be amongst the best at stopping and cleaning up malware. CCcleaner is a tool for cleaning the unwanted junk out of your computer similar to Disk Cleanup that Windows uses but does a better job.

Souped up XP is done by configuring what software starts with Windows, turning off services that can be a security threat, etc. I can post several links to articles if you'd like. There are also tricks to use within Vista too.

I have a very powerful workstation of a gaming/media computer so I do not worry so much about performance as I do protecting it and my network. My laptop is fairly powerful but I am a bit more reserved on performance hogging aps with it. My third computer is yet to be rebuilt after a severe BIOS failure. But with it I also was more concerned about security.

Search PC Magazine, PC World, Extreme Tech, and Security Bytes for further info. If you'd like, PM me and I'll give you my various messenger contacts so I can further help.

This is my 12th year of building and tweaking computers and I love to help others be more secure.

My gaming/workstation machine is a dual core 2 processor 2nd gen Opteron with 3 gigs of memory per die. I have 1.75 terabytes between 6 drives, HD TV tuner card, BlueRay drive, Dual 8800 GTs in SLI that are overclocked, 1000 watt PS, and a couple other things happening. My monitor is a 22" HD LCD.

My laptop is a 17" Lenovo with a dual core Intel 1.86 processor, 3 gigs of memory, wireless N networked, with 4 speakers and a built in sub.

My other gaming rig with the bad BIOS has a Phenom triple core processor with huge Zahlman cooling setup, 4 gig OZS mem, 9800GT vid, two WD 320 HDs, 750 watt PS, and connected to my monitor via composite video. The MB costs a fortune and I am not in a hurry to replace it.

I go to AndTech and Tom's also for indepth reviews and I frequent overclockers.com because I push the machine with the bad BIOS way past specs with a stable setup. The BIOS thing is the second in 3 years on a DFI board.

A lot of the more recent malware detects the filename of both the installation program and exe itself if you're trying to install an anti malware, or spyware remover now.

Download spybot search and destroy or malwarebytes, rename the file you downloaded, then install with desktop shortcuts. Right click the desktop shortcut to find the target (unless you already know the program name of the file the shortcut directs to). Change that file name to something different. Then run the spyware scanner, and reboot immediately when it's done if it asks you to.

If that still doesn't work, try running msconfig, and disabling all startup programs and services, and run the scanner again.

I've done spyware and virus removal on so many computers that had Norton installed, it's pretty much garbage, just a resource hog. Best deterrent is to just work safe, and learn how to avoid them.

Trend Micro is a great service provider.

They even offer something for the cell phones. I forget what it was though.

I knew I would regret that night in Cleveland with Robbie Alomar - but who knew it would hurt my computer....

Thanks for the advice. I dowloaded a couple of the malware suguestions - and will give a couple other a chance later today. Nothing fixed it yet - so I created a subfolder for my favorites and it seems to have went away for the time being.

Ccleaner fucking rocks, it is very aggressive though so if there is anything remotely shady that you use on the computer it will get rid of it so be careful with it if you arent sure. I use it all the time and we use it at work to clean customers computers for free.
