KRod looks great. He's been great the past few nights, especially seems like the more often they use him. I just thought Putz would have been logical with yesterday off and KRod going 3 straight. But it worked.

I'm 2 and 0 at Citi Field. I highly recommend the Promenade Club on the upper level behind home plate. If its not too packed, they let anyone in. It had a full bar and awesome food. I had the garlic fries with some gravy and they were awesome.

yup. Solid game. Livan showed why he belongs on this team instead of Pedro. the guy didn't have his stuff at the beginning, but he battled and battled, not just with his pitching, but a very good defensive play and even hits.

Jerry got balls today too with the running game- and that is what this team needed.

I hope they keep pedal to the metal vs Atlanta.

8 Reasons Why You Should Have a Man-Crush on Omir Santos

7) When he was brought up from Triple A, he asked the equipment manager, what the number of the catcher was when the Mets last won the World Series which is Gary Carter, #8. He then chose the #9 jersey. That actually happened.

The rest were mostly uneventful

If he was a Met and did it to Rollins, every guido on Long Island would be calling up WFAN talking about what a gritty and smart player he was.

It was dirty, but it was Ric Flair dirty.

There's a difference between that, and A-Rod trying to slap the ball out of the glove at first base.

Victorino reminds me of Lenny "Nails" Dykstra- and we see what Met fans thought of him when he was here.
I'm more pissed at the umps than Victorino over that.
as for the A-rod slapping play, its not THAT different. Both are "questionable", but A-Rod's is pussier.

I'd like to think if my team did that I wouldn't like it, but you never know; the closest I remember is Marlon Anderson had a take out slide that was way out.

Cora on the DL with a strained ligament in his right thumb. Reyes out again with the calf problem. Ollie pitched well in the minors.

Oddly enough, I don't think these are that big of a deal. For some reason, the big issues this team seems to rise above. It's the little things that seem to kill their psyche and momentum.

I'd say you guys have a chance to rebound tonight, with Jeff Weaver pitching for the Dodgers, but then I saw you're throwing Livan Hernandez.

Yeah...that's a pick 'em of awfulness.

Might see a rare double-digit scoring for both teams game, which is almost impossible at Dodger Stadium.

if you haven't watched Livan, you don't really get a good perspective on him.
He's a #5 and he's had some poor moments, but unlike other pitchers, he battles, limits damage, and contributes on defense and offense.

Now, Manuel finally has done what all of us were asking- he is letting Daniel Murphy start at 1B.
Putting Murphy at LF and Reed at 1B made no sense.

Good to see Sheffield be so unclutch. His on base is over .400

The problem is those moments are far and few in between for sheff, he wasnt missed in atlanta, just like he wasnt missed in detroit, sheff is a "me-first" type player and that is something no team needs. Especially the mets.

The good news is Francisco Rodriguez jogged out to the bullpen today and warmed up, hours after collapsing from back spasms that sent him the hospital.

That said, following today’s game, Jose Reyes told reporters that his leg is still not feeling good, and said there is ‘no chance’ he will start tomorrow.

What’s more, Ramon Martinez was removed from today’s game in the eighth inning with back pain, Jerry Manuel explained.

According to Manuel, he considered starting Fernando Tatis at shortstop today, suggesting he could turn to Tatis tomorrow in place of Martinez and Reyes.

Meanwhile, prior to the game, Manuel said it is possible Ryan Church could be put on the disabled list, as he will have his sore right hamstring examined tomorrow.

Church also said he is experiencing pain his right hip.

I don't think I ever remember a team with this many nagging injuries. Beltran even had a leg issue. It's awful.

Also this:
By the way, Nationals 1B Nick Johnson was a late scratch today due to ‘stomach discomfort,’ according to the Steve Yanda of the Washington Post, who writes:

When you first heard that Johnson had been scratched from the starting lineup at the last minute, how many of you figured he had been traded… That was the consensus up in the press box. Turns out, Johnson is still a member of the Nationals… Manny Acta said Johnson should be ready to play tomorrow at New York.”

I've wanted Nick Johnson for a while, he gets on base and is a great glove. But they have more needs now, I think I can live with Murphy there, he's looked pretty solid defensively.

agree completely. Nick Johnson obviously has the injury problem, but if healthy he would be a fine successor to Keith Hernandez / John Olerud. Murphy may become a similar hitter though, so it's not as big a deal.

I'd like to hear some feedback on this, because I was listening to Francessa on my iPhone at work today, and I was absolutely dying at how many Mets fans were bitching about how Jerry Manuel tried to 'throw the Saturday game' because he sat David Wright, Omir Santos and Luis Castillo on the same day.

Let me understand this...Wright who plays every single game, coming off an extra inning game the night before into a day game gets a breather against a really tough pitcher for him personally, and that's throwing the game?

Furthermore...Omir Santos????? Christ, I know he's done a decent job, but he's a mandatory everyday star that affects the competitive balance of the Mets lineup?

And Castillo...really? Two months ago, 90% of Mets fans would have taken a bag of balls for him.

Seriously, WTF?

I'd like to hear some feedback on this, because I was listening to Francessa on my iPhone at work today, and I was absolutely dying at how many Mets fans were bitching about how Jerry Manuel tried to 'throw the Saturday game' because he sat David Wright, Omir Santos and Luis Castillo on the same day.

I implore you not to judge Mets fans from what you hear on Francesa's show. He probably screens for only dummies. It wasn't our best lineup, that's for sure.

Schneider almost had to play, day game after a night game and first game off the DL. Omir has certainly become a fan favorite though, he leads the NL in rbi among catchers since he's been up. He's been great.

Wright looked terrible on the homestand. I was glad he got rest because Johnson would have struck him out at least 3 times.

Castillo should have played probably. They are so short without Reyes and Cora. A middle infield of Wilson Valdez and Ramon Martinez might be the worst I've ever seen. His OBP is near .400. I was critical of him but he's been good.

And no Sheffield, don't forget. Who was probably the best Met for the month of May.

Add it all up, and it seemed like he was not throwing it, but not going all out to win it. I can't say I blame him. Redding vs Johnson who has killed the Mets recently.

Bobby V. used to do a similar thing. Hurt yourself for one day rather than multiple days. And in baseball, any single game is winnable regardless.

He will have more flexibility over the coming weeks when players get healthy. Unless, of course, more get hurt.

I heard a caller on WFAN last week suggest the Mets trade Livan Hernandez and Daniel Murphy to SD for Peavy and Adrian Gonzalez.... Sure San Diego would be all over that one... haha

As expected, Angel Pagan has been put on the 15–day disabled list with a strained right groin.

Alex Cora will be activated from the DL tomorrow, to take Pagan’s spot on the 25–man roster.

I like the idea of Ben Sheets. If his rehab is going well, he may be able to pitch next month. For little money, if Ollie never gets healthy and Redding isn't any better. He could be an option down the road.

sheets is a wild card.
Good talent, bad injury.

and as you said, WFAN and the NY Post push nonsense- like worrying if mets "threw" saturday.

of course Im very happy I went Sunday, and not Saturday...

Putz fucking up two days in a row? Anyone else think he's hurt and not telling anyone? I wouldnt compair him to Heilam though, he was the bane of my existence.

Will Ollie ever make it back to pitch? I havent heard dick about him since they sent him down then said he was injured.

They also need Reyes back bad.

Dan Warthen said over the weekend that Ollie developed Tendinitis in his knee, and that'll set Ollie back. He had a pretty interesting interview on the FAN. He talked about not letting Ollie back up until he can consistently throw through his slot or else he'll always have knee problems.

Of course this could all be a smokescreen for his 5 walks in 4.1 inn. in his first rehab start. I hope I never see him again.

METS DEAL WITH SWINE FLU SCARE (http://www.nypost.com/seven/06022009/sports/mets/mets_deal_with_swine_flu_scare_172259.htm)

An unnamed member of the Mets' traveling party is in isolation at a Pittsburgh hospital with a possible case of swine flu, the team revealed today.

The person is part of the SNY broadcast crew -- a producer, according to sources -- that travels with the club.

Along those lines, Carlos Beltran is not at PNC Park and will miss his third straight game with a stomach illness, although at this point the Mets think he is suffering from a gastrointestinal virus and not swine flu.

Beltran missed two games last week with a brusied tibia, then after playing a full game left Saturday's contest at Citi Field with the stomach problem. He has not played since.

Pitcher John Maine left his latest start on Sunday after six innings due to stomach problems.

It's time to start getting everyday players back. I heard Reyes might show up on Friday, Im sure Beltran will be fine and maybe Delgao will come back in August and go on a tear....maybe not. Either way the replacements need to God bless them, they've done a good job. Maybe it will light a fire under these other players asses and make them feel good about being in the position they are because of these guys.

Eventually, but it may be another few days before Beltran can be at full strength; he has got to be completely dehydrated now.

Good for Sean Green. He has been amazing in recent weeks, retired 14 straight batters. And now without Putz, we need him to succeed. Give him a chance to keep getting better the next few weeks.

Redding was great tonight. I think he's much closer to that pitcher than the one who pitched last start. Maine tomorrow

From Cerrone, pretty overwhelming when you stack it up:

So far this season, the Mets have lost Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado, J.J. Putz, Alex Cora, Oliver Perez, Ryan Church, Brian Schneider and others to serious injuries; Daniel Murphy has gone from left field to first base; Francisco Rodriguez was rushed to a hospital after collapsing from back pain; the Mets had to trade for Wilson Valdez, because they lacked a quality option to back-up shortstop; Carlos Beltran lost 10 pounds and missed four games with a stomach bug; Fernando Martinez has been promoted; Omir Santos is the team’s starting catcher; Mike Pelfrey balked three times in one game; Church missed third base; and, lastly, not only is Gary Sheffield in the starting lineup, he’s batting clean up.

Here’s the craziest part: there are still 110 games left to be played.

MC Pee Pants
06-05-2009, 09:10 PM
All that and they are still in it. Thats why im staying positive about this season. That and what else do I have to live for right now? Hamburgers I guess.
