The forthcoming and still-untitled next Wilco album is nearing completion. Jim Scott and the band spent the last few weeks mixing in Jim's studio in Valencia, California and [below is] a list of song titles spied on the reels -- note this is not necessarily complete and not in sequence. Rumors and blogs regarding a guest appearance on that last track are, amazingly, quite true. Feist does indeed lend a great vocal to You and I. Other details will emerge in the coming weeks. The release is currently scheduled for late June on Nonesuch. Wilco's live concert film "Ashes of American Flags" will have its New York premiere on Monday, April 13 at the IFC Center as part of Movie Night with Fred Armisen, go here for more details. The film had its world premiere February 20 at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula, Montana where it won an award for Best Cinematography. The DVD is now available for pre-order via the Wilco store by clicking here. More information about the film is available at ashesofamericanmovie.com, including a full screening schedule and we've just added a Google calendar as well which you can access here. The DVD release via Nonesuch Records is set for April 18.
And most importantly, the movie premiere info can be found here (http://www.ifccenter.com/event?eventid=999769)
Movie Night with Fred Armisen The SNL star in person to present the new Wilco concert documentary ASHES OF AMERICAN FLAGS -- Monday, April 13 at 7:00pm Movie Night with Fred Armisen on Monday, April 13th at 7:00pm features the premiere of the new Wilco documentary ASHES OF AMERICAN FLAGS followed by a discussion of the film with Armisen and directors/producers Brendan Canty and Christoph Green. The new film follows Chicago-based band Wilco during their 2008 tour, interspersing interviews with band members and day-in-the-life footage as the band travels across the U.S., with live performances of more than a dozen songs.
I just got tickets!!! :clap::clap::clap:
And to Wilco's credit, they will be releasing the DVD on Record Store Day (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=78147&highlight=record+store), to support independent record stores.

Well, the screening was last night. Fred Armisen of SNL introduced the film. Ran about an hour and 35 minutes. Here's some thoughts:
-It was tough to sit there in a theater and watch. I wanted to move to the music, it was kinda restricting.
-The film is absolutely beautiful stylistically. The shots of these downtown American cities with Wilco's music playing over it is some of the most cinematic things I've ever seen in a 'concert film'. The filmmakers had an overall theme of the disappearing American city and this hard working band and that really came across.
-13 songs total. For me, Nels Cline really comes through as one of the better guitarists ever. The close up shots of what the guy is able to do and the toll it takes on him physically is just unbelievable. The chemistry the band has on stage is amazing.
-It's weird to say but I kinda wish there was more of the band talking and more of the documentary aspect almost rather than the concert. Really I wish it was another 30 minutes longer of just that. The music is amazing but the stuff in between was really intriguing and well done, I would have liked to see more of it.
Setlist of the film:
Ashes of American Flags
Side with the Seeds
Handshake Drugs
The Late Greats
Kingpin
Wishful Thinking
Impossible Germany
Via Chicago
Shot in the Arm
Monday
You are my face
Heavy Metal Drummer
War on War
Nice mix of old and new. I think the highlight was Via Chicago. Just the quietness of the beginning of the song into the raucous chorus and back to quiet, well you know the song but it was really fantastic version.
Then the filmmakers came out for a Q and A. One of the filmmakers was the drummer for Fugazi. I asked who determined the setlist which I found out was the filmmakers who chose songs to fit the tempo of the pacing of the film and ones which were like a real Wilco setlist.
Overall, what can I say. It captures one of the greatest bands ever doing what they do best. Can't wait to watch it again.
Since I'm holding a copy of the DVD in my hands, I'll tell you that the extra tracks on the disc are:
I'm the man who loves you
Airline to heaven
Its just that simple
At least that's what you said
I am trying to break your heart
Theologians
Hate it here
And don't forget that tomorrow night's concert will be on a live webcast via their website (http://www.wilcoworld.net/). The "official" start time is 8pm (central) but they started tonight about 8:30-ish.

Here's some info from Spin:
While the album doesn't have a title or firm release date yet (late June/early July is the goal), frontman Jeff Tweedy tells SPIN.com that it's a mix of pastoral Americana rock (think 2007's Sky Blue Sky) and experimental studio sounds (2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot).
On "Solitaire," a downcast ballad about loneliness, acoustic guitars give way to wailing slide licks. And "Deeper Down," the record's most musically ambitious tune, sounds like Bach meets Yes. A classical harpsichord melody is mimicked by Nels Cline's electric guitar, as what might be a beer can is slowly crumpled in the background.
"We wanted to use studio effects more and step away from the live recording we did on Sky Blue Sky," says Tweedy.
Lyrically, the songwriter is exploring new ideas, too: "There are definitely more songs on this record that aren't directly from my experience. There's a song written from the point of view of a guy just killed his girlfriend," Tweedy says of "Bull Black Nova," a track with a classic-rock feel. And on "You and I," a duet with "1234" songstress Feist, the pair play lovers singing about making a relationship work.
"It's a great batch of songs," says Tweedy. "And I think it's due to the band having some longevity this time around -- this is the first lineup that's ever made two records together. There's a really relaxed quality to the way we work together now." Longtime Wilco members Tweedy and bassist John Stirrat were joined in 2004 by Cline and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone.
Wilco's summer tour -- which follows their spring jaunt and European outing in May -- will hit major cities nationwide, including a stop at Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival on June 13, before concluding at the 10,000 Lakes Festival in Detroit Lakes, MN, on July 23.
In related news, Wilco will release a new concert movie, Ashes of American Flags, this Saturday, April 18, as part of the nationwide Record Store Day. Click here for more information.
Someone pulled audio of the new songs from live performances. You can hear 'You Never Know' here (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?rz4c2jmnmxr). I don't see it on the tracklist for the album but whatever.

And although perhaps irrational, I don't care for people who name themselves a band name when it's basically a solo act. Even if they get other guys to play with them, while not being an actual band.

Conor Oberst to Open for Wilco
Wilco have been around long enough now that they're becoming something of an institution. This year, we're seeing them step into the role of elder statesmen with ease and grace. They're collaborating with Feist, they're playing a show with Grizzly Bear, and this July, they'll spend some time on the road with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. So get ready for a long night of homespun roots-rock, in permutations both blithely experimental (Wilco) and larynx-shreddingly sincere (Conor). Dates below.
Both Wilco and Oberst, of course, have new joints coming out. Outer South, the new album from Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, is due from Merge on May 5. And we'll also get a new Wilco LP sometime this June. Suffice to say: your barbecues will not be hurting for soundtrack music this year.
