For more than three hours, the driver of a luxury Bentley sedan led police on a low-speed car chase along some of Los Angeles' busiest freeways before shooting himself to death, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The driver of the $100,000-plus Bentley with Illinois plates was identified as a businessman of Pakistani origins, the newspaper says. No name was given.

The shooting occurred about an hour and a half after the suspect had finally stopped the car near the scene of an earlier alleged assault with a deadly weapon against his girlfriend, the Times says. The man shot himself as police surrounded the car and later died at a hospital, the newspaper says.
