im looking for a program that will "backup" my dvds so i can burn them to another dvd and have as a backup copy.
can anyone recommend a good program for that pleeeeease!

i'd like to get rid of my dvd's and convert them to avi's or mpg's that i can save on my hard drive. any suggestions?

Now this is a rough one, don't even know where to start how to explain this. There is not a honest, easy, button click way of doing this without paying money, and it will take hours to do.
Not only are you ripping the audio and video from a DVD, you are also re-encoding video, and re-encoding audio. It takes a long time, and is usually not worth the effort to be honest.

i use slysoft. have copied over 100 dvds. great programs.

handbrake is both mac and windows compatible, and makes this very simple.
And if you want to simply save the file to your computer it has presets which makes it very simple.
When asking computer related questions please share what OS you're using..makes things easier.
DVD shrink is great because it will compress the video from a DL dvd so it will fit on a cheaper single layer dvd, neither of which matters if you just want to save the file to your comp.

yay, new software to play with.. Never heard of Handbrake somehow. Will try, once this 12 pack of Yuengling wears off after a few 9hrs of sleep.

i use slysoft. have copied over 100 dvds. great programs.
so does that convert into .avi or others?
i would love to do my movies as encoding will not be a problem for me.
