My laptop is pretty hit or miss when it comes to charging. It works just fine when it's plugged in; the only problem is that if I transport it or the battery runs down for some reason, it's inconsistent on whether or not it will charge. Anyone have any idea why it would cause that or what I would have to do to get it to charge 100% of the time?
It sounds like a power supply problem. If you know someone with the sametype of computer maybe you could borrow their supply and test it. It could also be a crappy connection on the laptop where the power supply plugs in.

Was going to say the same thing. My old laptop had a similar issue, examined the power supply cord and right at the base of the brick the casing of the cord was split and showing wires in turn, breaking the connection if moved a certain way.

Annie and I have only had our Dell Laptop for three years now, and it already tells me that I need to buy a new battery. WHy? I never use the battery power.

I know that the batteries now aren't supposed to have any memory problems but keeping them plugged in and fully charged all of the time could cause them to deteriorate due to overheating. About once a week I leave my laptop on until the battery completely dies and then charge it again. I don't know if it makes a difference but I haven't had any trouble with my battery in the 3 years I've had it.
If the machines are still under warranty I would call dell support and bitch at them. You might be surprised and get a new battery.

Search google for laptop battery maintenance
, 3 years is a pretty long time for a battery to last...apples taken slack for their new 17inch with a non user replacable battery....
Most companies assume you'll upgrade before ever having a battery issue but people seem to hang onto laptops as long as old desktops.

The best way to keep laptop batteries in good shape and last way past the expected three years is to keep them fully charged as much as possible. The more you completely drain it and recharge it the more you are lowering the longevity of it. My last laptop I had 5 years and the battery new when I bought it lasted about 1hr:30m, when I replaced the laptop 5years later, it ran about 1hr:15m. Still pretty good for a low end battery, w/ no power saving options on.
