I am in good shape and I want to jog but whenever I jog my shins start to kill me (Rather quikcly as well). Is there any reason for this or is there any way I can make my shins stronger. Or any ideas. I have talked to several people about this and they never heard anything like this
They are called shin splints.. A good 10-15min stretch beofre a work out always helps. Also taking a asprin for the first couple of times helps. Check your sneakers make sure they arent worn out. That also can cause them. They hurt like shit and i know what your going through. It takes time but a slow progression is the way to rid them..

Don't jog.
You can see the receptionist outside. $10 co-pay.

Yeah, agree with Snot- when I start getting splints, that is when I know it's time to get new shoes-

I would recomend you go to a runner shop to get some good running shoes. Its money well spent. Usually a local runner owns the shop and knows about fitting you versus some surly teenager at Modells. My daughter the runner gets fitted right and has no problems while running as much as 50 miles a week.

Another good treatment for this is to fill paper cups with water and freeze them. Tear off the top part of the cup so ice is exposed and rub in circular motion on your shins after running. Works pretty well as a rehab method but like everyone else said check your shoes.

Stop being fat.
Your shins will return the favor.

whenever I try to run, once I get up past 4 miles, I get shin splints. Always. Shoes, Ice, stretching, etc. no good. I think I just cannot run. I got a road bike and a trainer and ride in my living room.

Hell. Hell on earth.
I went through hell during basic training and my entire military career thereafter. And to this day.
Thanks for reminding me.
I hope you're somehow able to head this thing off while it's early.

Sounds like shin splints. I found if before you staart, if you sit down and stretch your leg out in front of you and point your toes and then pull your toes back towards your knees and forward and back over and over again that it helps prevent it. When I am sitting at my desk I do it all day.

Anthony Kiedis had this problem , also a doctor told him his calf muscles were getting to big for his legs or some shit because of pogoing for so many years on stage. I read it in his book, and thats no help to you or this thread.

Yeah, i could see how listening to the shins while running would get to you.
Personally i'd go for something a bit more dramatic, maybe some rock that you like.
Personally i'd mix some at the drive in, rage against the machine, maybe some sparta and black rebel motorcycle club.
but thats up to you.

Do we have any runners in the house... No answer.... Akward silence.... Well, don't you hate it when, your shins start hurting, just when you start getting in the groove, wait for a response.... None coming, more awkward silence...
