got a LCD TV, and went out and upgraded to a HD-DVR box from time warner
the picture's great and all but there's some quirks that irritate: the interface and search functions seem regressive compared to the old (non-HD) box; there's a noticeable delay between buttons pressed and the desired action; the picture seems to lock-up often enough to the point where i've had to re-boot the box at least once a week and the real pain is that the audio drops out intermittently every few minutes at times (at no real intervals)
anyone had to go through this ...? is it the box ...? or just growing pains with the HD technology

who is your provider?
I've had terrible problems with comcast. They "upgraded" my box to a new cisco box and it blows donkeys. I'd rather have my 4 year old box back.
I have Fios coming next week. Comcast was not working and Fios was $50 cheaper a month

I worked in that field for a long long time, and in my poorly qualified opinion, you got a bum box.

Fios is the best. They were rated tops accross the nation last year in consumer reports. I've had it for years. Much better than comcast.
As far as the box problem, I think you have a bum box also.

i'm a timewarner customer in queens
i had a feeling it was the box -- it looked used, and i noticed it was a little nicked up and missing pads underneath
can you ask for a 'new' box ...?

I had a flakey HD Box from Cablevision. They brought a new one out next day. No questions asked.

Check your cable connection first. I had the exact same problems, and figured it was either the box or my cable company. I had channels, though, that would come in perfectly if I adjusted the angle of the box. So i unhooked the cable, and cleaned both parts of the connection and it's worked great ever since.

I have Time Warner in Orange County ny and the hd boxes blow. I had to return the first one I got. It constantly rebooted.
The delay after pressing the buttons is a firmware issue. They supposedly recently upgraded the firmware, but I haven't been watching much TV lately so I don't know if they actually fixed that. My buddy says that his seems to be better though. Make sure the box is off at night to receive the update
does your box look like this
