I will be putting together a PC this weekend or week.

I need to ground myself out as to not shock anything.

The room will be hard wood floored.

I plan on putting a humidifier in there a day or to before.

the house is dry during the winter.

Any more tips?

Touch the chassis. Touch the chassis. Everytime you do anything in there just touch the computer case beforehand. You can place the computer on a rubber mat too. Do NOT be working in your socks. Wear rubber-soled shoes. No wool sweaters or anything. Naked, with just rubber shoes on. If you have body hair, shave it completely off. Including facial hair. pee before you work on the computer. Poop before you work on the computer.

The last half is not for grounding, just for good hygiene. I like to multi-task in my tips giving.

Put on some wool socks and shuffle around on the carpet for a while.

you can get yourself a grounding strap like this one at radio shack
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2260808 . At $20 is is a little pricey though. If you work anywhere where there is and it department you might be able to borrow one.

If you aren't able to get one, just remember to touch the chassis as much as possible.

You need to get a copyright for that phrase as soon as you can. If David Blaine sees that, he will try it. Get paid for it at least.

Simplest thing to do is have everything in one pile and just don't walk around during the process, that way you can't build up any static.

Grounding straps are gay

Grounding straps are gay

I've built over 100 custom pc's, and I've never had a static issue and never used a strap. Guess that's why I didn't include it.

Do you build them all naked and cleanly shaved?

Just as long as you aren't running around all over the place you will be fine. Wear rubber soled shoes, touch the case all the time before touching anything else, keep magnetic tools such as screwdrivers away from the hard drive and stuff. It will go fine. It will be fairly easy. And you will realize how much money you saved, and can make on the box if you sell it on ebay or something.

Lemme know if you have any jumper/USB/front sound plug issues. Some cases are different than others, so what is labeled in motherboard manual may differ from what plugs are on the case.

Heres my case. The room that its in gets a little warmer in the summer. So that is the reason of the case. When I read this thread title I did not think it was about building a PC.

I'm pretty sure the only way to ground yourself out is if you have a ghost runner on second.

Me either... I was still amazed when I built my first one, pushed power and the thing turned on though.
