We'd all like our favorite act to be in that spot, but there really aren't many they can put there. They have to be household names, but also pretty non-threatening. Older acts do work best because everybody knows the songs.

The only way you can do current stuff is if you do the multi-artist medly like a few years ago with Britney, Aerosmith, N Sync, etc. (Yeah, I know Aerosmith could do it without the others.). To do that these days, though, would mean that a ton of people wouldn't know the songs. I have yet to hear anything by Rhianna, Lady Gaga, etc., and I hope to keep that streak going.

How can we enjoy music we hate? Most of the people who hate Bruce dont hate him for political or personal reasons, its cause his songs blow and his voice sounds awful

it was a nice performance.
but it seems they don't make halftime shows the way they used to.

Diana Ross is not for everyone, but she is an undeniable superstar and her performance at SuperBowl XXX was gutsy and quite the undertaking. Well planned and executed, and completely LIVE, they managed 4 costume changes for Diana, live pyrotechnics, usage of local performers and students, and a dramatic high-security risk exit.
It seems they are lowering standards these days.
But that is just my $.02.

(and my dad coordinated and executed the security for this halftime show so yeah... i am biased. :) )

I like Bruce, don't love him, but it was pretty damn good. Played 3 songs everyone knew, 1 new one. The 3 classics were the exact ones he should have played. Had high energy and actually PLAYED and SANG. You don't always get that.

Do you think its a bummer that your career goes back to the 70s, you're thought of as a living legend and one of the paragons of American music, and 3 out of the 4 songs you get to play are 25 years old?

JimBeam

I don't really enjoy any of his music so my opinion might be slanted but even if I try and stay objective I think it sucked.

I thought the changing of the words to Glory Days, to fit the Super Bowl, was as lame as it gets especially when he seemed to get his old self disoriented and looked like he forget what was supposed to come next.

I've gotta admit I thought for sure he'd finish w/ Born In The USA since it seemed like such an obvious cheesey choice.
