So, I've been seeing this girl over the past month or so. Last Friday, we went out for Sushi, then afterwards went to a bar and had drinks and talked. We got back to my place, I asked her to come in, but she said it was late and she had to go. Which is fine, because it was after midnight. After I kissed her goodnight, I said I'd like to see her again. I mentioned that my friend was having a Super Bowl party, and she should come - she said that sounded good.

Later that night, I texted her, saying I had a great time and I hope she made it home safely. I never heard back, so I followed up on Sunday. Again, right to voicemail, no returned call. I still hadn't heard back as of yesterday around noon, so I followed up again, left a voicemail reminding her about my friend's party. Again, nothing. So I was pretty pissed off last night, and sent her a text:

"[girls_name], it would be nice if you let me know if you were interested or not. It's just common courtesy"

So yeah, I know I probably came off as a dick, and I know that four contacts in a week is probably too much. I know she's probably just not that into me. But I took her out on four dinners, and paid for everything. Am I asking too much to get a call back, at least telling me to fuck off? Or is this just how people operate in the dating world now?

And before someone else posts it, here's how I felt this week.

The repeated messages are puss.

One text one vm, after that if you don't hear anything don't be a whiney bitch about it, sounds like she prob had better options ans didn't want to hurt your feelings.

I've never met a woman scared to return a call...

"Sorry Celery, you're right. I do have fun with you, but I just don't feel that much of a connection. Good luck with your search"

It's weird because we had some fun two weeks ago after our date, so I thought there was a little something there...maybe I'm a bad kisser. Anyways, I feel 100% better now that she told me.

Onward and upward. I have a third date with this other girl Saturday. Any fun date ideas? Maybe I should make her pay.

Thanks for listening, everyone.

One phone call one txt. That's all you put out, what you did is going to end up on her myspace page. Eesh. It sucks not getting a call back, we've all been there, well not me, but you just gotta let it go after one call. And you should wait a couple days even for that call.

Anyone that does not have the common courtesy or decency of returning a message is not worth your time.

I'm glad she finally did get back to you, but it's ridiculous that you had to brow beat her into it.

I hope it doesn't happen again, but if you do hook up with a loser who doesn't have the confidence to say "sorry, I'm just not interested" cut your losses and move on. There's nothing sadder and more pathetic than someone who doesn't have the balls to say how they feel.

Yeah, that's generally the rule I follow, but since we made plans and I hadn't heard back, I waited a week and followed up. Hey, it was a no-win situation, I just felt I deserved some response...and she gave me enough positive signs that I thought she was into me at some point.

Dinners, movies, (some) romance. Yeah, they're definitely dates - I don't think this is "Black Earl Plus One".

It's possible I am trying to hard, but I just try to be myself - I can carry my end of a conversation. With this girl, I kinda thought she was out of my league, but we did hook up some and she told me she liked hanging out with me. So I figured she was sorta into me and went with it. After our fourth date, she must have decided she didn't want to go further, which is fine.

Like Gvac said, I shouldn't have had to browbeat a response out of her. If I end up on her douche-list on myspace, so be it - I just felt that after spending a couple hundred bucks and four nights of my time on dates, she could take 30 seconds and turn me down.

That's just how dating is these days. Anytime I've been pursuing someone and they weren't interested, I've never gotten a concise "I'm just not interested," its always something very wishy-washy or they just stop responding. That's why people love email/AIM/texting/Facebook, you can remove all meaning and feeling from communication. Plus, I'm in my early 20's, so its nearly impossible to try to connect with someone with AIM/texting/Facebook playing a huge part.

It's actually a pretty cool service - they have them in grocery stores and McDonalds all over the place here. You pick up your DVD for $1 a night, then return it to any location. If you don't return it for 25 days, they charge you $25 and you keep it. Which it looks like she did, or at least forgot to return it...

I've come up with a naming convention, so those of you following along at home can keep things straight.

Polly - the first girl mentioned in this thread, out of the picture now. She's about 5'10, with heels on she's about as tall as me (I'm 6'1).

Palin - The girl I was seeing until about three weeks ago. She's out of town for six months on work, neither of us had much interest in a long-distance thing, so we "put things on hold". Not sure if we'll pick things up again, though we got along pretty well and our friends seemed to like each other. She's also the source of the Redbox controversy above.

Charlotte - The one I have plans to see on Saturday, and I still need to figure out something to do with. She mentioned that The Dark Knight is playing in IMAX near her and she hadn't seen it. I can't figure out if that's a good date idea, or a little on the geeky side.
