View Full Version : Poll: What Will Springsteen Play At the Super Bowl?

Bruce has 12 minutes tomorrow night during the Super Bowl, so what is he going to play? The biggest issue he faces is that the majority of his songs are relatively long, so to even get three songs in he’ll have to truncate at least one of them.
“Born To Run” is not only the obvious choice, but it’s a given to be the closer. Since the purpose of the performance is to hype the new album, there’s no doubt to me that the middle song will be off that. I don’t think “Working on a Dream” works as a live song, but since it’s the single I’d bet that’s the choice. A disastrous set would include two songs from an album the vast majority of the public has yet to hear.
So what will be the opening tune? “Thunder Road” would be great, and an obvious choice, but it’s also a bit too long. I’m sure NBC would love for him to play “Born in the USA”, but I hope to god that’s not what he chooses. Same with “The Rising”, “Dancing in the Dark” (I feel this way about most of the hits from BITUSA, except for “No Surrender”), or almost anything from the 90’s.
The River may be the most apt disc to choose from, since it’s filled with almost nothing but short, guitar-driven rockers. “Cadillac Ranch”, “Out In the Streets”, “Two Hearts”, “You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)”, etc., but most of those are too obscure.
So what do you think he’ll play?

Either 3 or 4 hack-y, sounds like a beer commercial songs.
(I'll run naked through Times Square if he sings that "44 Shots" song)
(a thought: Bruce is to New Jersey as Billy Joel is to Long Island.)

I'm hoping The Rising. That song always gets me crying. I think of the family and friend I lost on 9/11.

Another song I'm dreading but I'm sure NBC would love is "Glory Days". Yes, it's a baseball song, but I'm sure they'd love any sports connection.

He can play whatever he wants. I will watch the puppy-bowl during half time in spite of him.

That would be great if he did that and have Julianne Phillips walk out on stage after the song was over.

I guarantee he plays: The Rising, song from new album, Born to Run. Lock it up!

You mean they're both the perfect reflection of the people who live there?

No, to be fair to Bruce, he's risen above his Jersey roots.

I hope he comes out with an acoustic guitar and does only songs from
Nebraska and that Pete Seeger record he did a couple of years ago.

Ideally, he would come out with the E Stret Band and use the entire time to do Rosalita.

Realistically , he will do a medley featuring Born To Run, The Rising, a new one, and close with Born In The U.S.A..

Ugh.
Bruce singing "Born in the USA" and the inevitable "Pat Tillman represents everything good about the NFL" storyline.

Im thinking the opener will be Tenth Avenue or Born in the USA. He might do The Rising but he did just do that at the inauguration thing. Glory Days and Born to Run I think are locks. I also predict we'll hear The Wrestler played to a cheesy nfl montage. As long as he doesnt just do an awful medley it'll be okay.
Dancing in the Dark......book it!

Are you just pointing out that one is from New Jersey and one is from Long Island? Because, if you're comparing them artistically then you are way off the mark. There is NO comparing these two.

But the character in "Born in the USA" is nothing like the story of Pat Tillman. Bruce isn't that stupid to make that kind of connection.
Thought: Ritalin should drink a six of Pabst Blue Ribbon, put on his headphones and listen to his collection of Whitesnake albums.

I'm going to one Super Bowl party for the first half and another for the second.
Never have I been happier that I'll be on the road during half time.

Born to Run
Working on a dream
Glory Days
We'll find out in just a few minutes.
