Cox Communications, the nation’s third-largest cable company, on Tuesday unveiled a plan to monitor and slow Internet content it deems unimportant.

With this news, Cox joins the ranks of other Internet providers willing to tempt legal fate by getting between customers and their access to the free-flowing Web.

Comcast — which the FCC sanctioned last year for just this type of interference – had secretly blocked access to legal file-sharing applications to users the cable giant deemed “bandwidth hogs.”

Undaunted, Comcast reportedly has now joined AT&T in a new effort to filter Web traffic for files deemed inappropriate by movie and recording industry lawyers. (http://www.savetheinternet.com/blog/2009/01/29/more-ghosts-in-the-machine/)

Comcast sent me a letter saying they are going to limit the amount of bandwidth each month.
they also got in trouble by the FCC for doing what you are talking about but were not punished by fines or anything, just warned which has no teeth.

thats why we need the Net Neutrality bill that will keep it open for all applications.

Anyone who lives in an area where you can get broadband is lucky, I'm stuck paying 50 a month for satellite which is 1/9th the speed of cable, more expensive, and I have a 10gb cap a month.

Gaming/voip are both impossible.

Ugh

Dude!

I have Comcast and my Limewire won't connect.

Is this why? Or do I just need to re-install it?

If it is blocked, any recommendations for an alternative?

Just for music.

Torrents and Usenet > Limewire

Try opening your firewall to allow limewire through that could be it or look into the other two options I posted above.

I have Comcast and have no problems at all with p2p speed , My speed was actually slower before Comcast introduced their bandwidth cap and p2p throttling, now I get faster speeds.
