I went in for a Lasik consult yesterday. I had been seeing prices of around $2500-$3000 for a while, and had a consult two years ago where they quoted around $3k. I go in, they dilate my eyes so I can't see then sit me down and quote 5 grand. Walked out. Would have been nice if they told me the price BEFORE making me blind the rest of the night
Have you had Lasik? How much did you pay? $5k seems pretty fucking high from what I've heard.

i was quoted $5k also. The reason why was because I need custom LASIK in both eyes, because of astigmatisms. Normally it would have been around $3k.

I have astigmatism as well, but was quoted $3k 2 years ago... this doctor said "oh it's because we do the new bladeless blah blah"... so I said "what about the one with the blade, that one worked for years, didn't it" and she got all huffy and started to talk about how it was dangerous and had tons of side effects.

I was quoted $3500 2 years ago, and I also have astigmatism. I also was told that wether it was done with a blade or laser, there is still a possibility of irreversible damage which could either only improve my eyesight slightly or make it even worse. I'm pretty sure that's still the case today so I decided to just deal with glasses and contacts.

i had it in 2003 and it was about $1500 an eye. worth every penny.
(ok so my mom paid... but it was worth it for her to see me without glasses...lol)
i think it was the newer method at the time ... but i honestly don't remember if it was blade or bladeless, sorry. it was at Laser One in NY and I would recommend my surgeon but he transferred to Johns Hopkins....
good luck! it's an amazing feeling to no longer need specs!

Get another quote, from another provider! You'll have to have the dilation eyedrops again- but if it allays your concern, it will be worth it!
I did not have to have the personalized program, but I paid 3000. It's been great.
An' nobody does the blade anymore. Omigod, it's like. Gag me with a stainless-steel, disinfected spoon!

I'm so freaky about my eyes there is no way I could do it unless I was knocked out.

... and you can't be knocked out because you have to focus on the laser. they do numb you though so you don't feel anything except for some pressure.
the freakiest thing was seeing the cornea flipped open and then seamlessly pasted back together with the laser. fuckin cool!

My chick went ... I got a guy near the horse track (Bensalem area) out near Philly if you're interested I'd def. recommend.
He had one procedure that was $2500 I think - it's a fine procedure in that it's good - it works etc. but it's done on old machinery - like outdated machinery.
The other was around $4500 done on the new equipment - less reports of whatever goes wrong on those operations... some people report fuzzy nighttime vision and other things.
I was joking - it's the Cadillac of laser eye surgery.
We went with the Cadillac - fughedabouit -
She's an outspoken advocate for lasik now.

It's that perfect, German genetic engineering.
I want the procedure but I can't look at pictures of it. That freaks me out.

It only takes a few min and you can apparently load yourself up w/ xanax beforehand. I'm incredibly dentist phobic and took a bar of xanax before a root canal and didn't give a fuck about what was going on.
I'm not considering it for cosmetic purposes, I have very sensitive skin around my eyes, and have been developing cuts and pressure sores where my glasses sit on my nose, even had them refit with no success. It's a pain in the ass and I can't tolerate contacts, my astigmatism is bad enough that I can never get a perfectly fitted pair and they swim around my eyes. Ended up in the ER w/ a scratched cornea not too long ago from trying to fix that problem.
My budget for this is $4k, which looks very doable, $5k was a bit much. I usually drop about $750 a year on glasses/contacts/prescription sunglasses so I'm figuring this pays for itself rather quickly.

No shit. The doc that did my wife's procedure does it right out in the open with a glass partition seperating the operating room and the waiting room - I guess to put someone curious about it at ease.
I just walked out and got a drink at the neighboring Walgreens.

I went to TLC in Manhattan it cost around 4,500 but thats with my wifes ins. paying a %. I cannot recommend these people enough they are pricey but man they are professional. I had to get PRK instead of standard Lasik because of an odd shape of my left eye so my recovery was way longer but the results are terrific. Keep searching its totally worth it, I started wearing glasses when I was eight so I was glad to be rid of them. I got some Valium and was completely relaxed during the whole thing.

it will pay for itself and then some.
get a few different quotes... and research the doctors and then go for it.
and i think you can take xanax or what not but you have to be coherent for the procedure... they can't do the procedure if you are falling asleep. that's why my surgeon didn't give me a valium. i was nervous but it was quick and more interesting that scary.
yay! good luck!

One thing that amused me was when I went to get the procedure, the nurse asked if I wanted a Spongebob or a tiger doll to hold, and at first I was all, I'm a full grown adult lady and I don't need a comfort animal, I came here to get my eyes taped open and burned, and then I was all, gimme the tiger.
I took the valium and it was nice.

If given the choice, I would choose SpongeBob. I just want that known.

I paid 2800 about six years ago - but I have seen it for $2000 many times since.
It was worth $10000 though.

I would do it but frankly, i am under the assumption that my eyesight is too poor to benefit from it.
