I purchased a Phillips 42 inch LCD 1080p television at Target the other day for $750.00
(cheap deal). The one major drawback is the fact that there is not a VGA monitor port on the television.

I do have two component sets, 1 S-Video/RCA, and 4 HDMI sets on the television for peripheral connection.

Is it possible to convert the classic 15 pin VGA monitor port to an HDMI for easy interface between my laptop and my television?

Additionally - I do not have a DVI port on my laptop.

Thanks buddays!

Secondly, if there has to be a double conversion (VGA to DVI, DVI to HDMI) will it show up black and white only?

If I do a S-Video to RCA female conversion, then RCA Male to RCA Male it turns the picture black and white because of the double conversion from my PC for some reason.

I have to check when I get to my office, but I believe I have a few VGA to HDMI converter cables in my cabinet. So I believe it can be done. I'll check tomorrow and if they're there, I got no problem mailing one to you.

I'm not sure how long it is, so you may need to pick up an extension.

I guess the only issue then would be running the audio through a second source (headphone to RCA conversion into a theatre system/stereo system.

Laptop has only one VGA port

Figure you could buy a HDMI to DVI cord (http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?spcDB=10231&spcWord=Video+Cable+-+%3Cb%3EHDMI%2FDVI%3C%2Fb%3E&keyword=vga%20to%20hdmi), and then use a VGA/DVI adaptor (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011402&p_id=4559&seq=1&format=2).

the problem with converting VGA to HDMI is that VGA doesn't give off audio. Do you have an audio -in plug on the back of the tv (3mm plug), where you can plug your sound card to your tv?

Monoprice rocks.

Actually. It looks like you will have a problem with converting the analog part of VGA to digital HDMI. It may not work...

Most converters cost a lot of money. http://sewelldirect.com/articles/vga-to-hdmi.aspx

Hooray!

max resolution through the Components to the TV might only be 480p or 720p depending on video cards limits. But since the only OUT on the Lappy is VGA, i assume it older and could not support a screen resolution of 1920x1080(1080p).

So you should me OTAY!
