At the last party, Gvac told me that his dad developed an allergy to beer after he turned 40 years old. I think I have a similar thing. I am still fairly new to the 40's and I have noticed that I have a head cold each morning after drinking beer. Nothing major but my eyes are puffy, my sinuses are clogged, and I have a minor sore throat. It goes away throughout the day like a hangover would so I don't think they are real colds.
Does anyone else have this experience? Dr. Steve, is this common? I drank a couple of pints yesterday while watching Arsenal and I have a head cold this morning. I think I am getting close to giving up on beer altogether.

37. I think I need to severely re-prioritize my life for the next two and a half years.

I'm not allergic, but I have been feeling "beered out" lately. I just can't have more than
a couple before I get tired of it.

I wonder if it is more that you are dehydrated than an allergy? Dehydration can cause some of the symptoms you describe like your sore throat which can be either from sleeping with your mouth open (alcohol can make us do this) and/or dryness caused by the dehydrating effects of alcohol. Same principle for just about everything else you described like dry sinuses causing the head cold feeling. Next time try drinking a good amount of water beforehand, then when you get home have another glass or two of water before you go to bed. See if this helps.
I do know that some beer drinkers it is rough on their lower GI tract and they get the spraying shits. It is just a minor intolerance of sorts.

You have a good point. I will try drinking more water and see what happens. Thanks.

Gvac's dad just got sick of buying a six pack and having his punk kid drink 3 or 4 of 'em. Allergic to "Gvac in his fridge" is the real diagnosis.:drunk:
