View Full Version : Enjoying Deb as Fourth Mic

Whenever R&F have a female voice in the room, it brings a difference perspective to the R&F show. I wasn't a huge fan of either Lilly on the air because Old Lilly came off kind of condescending and New Lilly was just comic relief.

However, I've been really enjoying HTG's appearances as fourth mic on the show. She's not stepping on R&F, she has a lot to add, and she's not getting involved in the drama.

I hope this keeps up.

I agree. She sounds pretty natural on the air and doesn't actually talk over anyone.

HTG is by far my favorite female 4th mic. She's not annoying or over-laughing and she adds to the conversation. Stay humble, Debbie. You're doing great.

I know some good people here would disagree with me, but I think HTG is doing a fan-fucking-tastic job on the air. I definitely like her better than either Lily.

One point of contention with Mr.Freitag tho: New Lily wasn't even what would amount to comic relief (in my books of course). I'd rather listen to three days of AJ Dynamite while injecting caffeine into my veins than 30 minutes of that horrid crazy bitch. Harsh, I know. She deserves it. (goddamn it)

Sheepy's a sweet girl 'n' all, but really is more of a radio cocktease than a radio handjob. HTG, aka PL, on the other hand... Radio BJ. That's my professional assessment.

No when I flipped out about the PAC being a bad idea. But this isn't about me, it's about Deb.

I think she's blended seamlessly into the flow of the show. It's not like awkwardly going to Deb and saying, "Let's see what Deb thinks..." She chimes in, she checks out.

Nope, his older bro & younger sis hate the R&F crowd, although "hate" is too strong a word to use about their opinions. (That was an awkward sentence, but it's hard to write what I meant because I'm the oldest of the 4 of us, and he's 3rd in birth order, so it makes sense once I explain that.)

I think Gerald was a member here and ended up getting a perma-ban for being a douche and Catherine accompanied the Sheepster to the last Bergen Bar Night (back in September-ish) ... I think most of the guys thought she was his date. (I don't blame anyone because she's been acting like they're married pretty much since she could talk.)

I've been around most of the crowd for a while ... basically since the Big Ass Night of Frights in 2002. They're really not so bad. The only time I have issues is when drinks get spilled on my coat, but that only happens when the venue for any given event is packed to the gills. Crowds bother me.

Dad actually likes the R&F show ... and we actually listened to the "Sheepy Goes to the Prom" show in May of 2002 together. I even took a couple of (bad) photos when the limo showed up with Claire. No joke.

Yeah, so are the kids she went to school with. (And most of my grammar school class. Only the people who survived the worst with me are people I bother with anymore. That means out of ... 35 people ... I only talk to 2 now and I've been out of the 8th grade for 17 years.)

I hate NYC bars in general because there's no elbow room and it takes ten thousand years to get the attention of a bartender (and of course the pretending you can actually hear the girl talking to you at the bar and hoping your acting is working can be hair-raising). The full-blown India experience isn't my idea of fun. But the people in those RF crowds are always nice.

My dad liked RF for approximately one day then did a full-blown heel turn. He's one of those guys who laughs at Carlin then the next day acts all embarrassed and ashamed for enjoying him and tries to repent for his sins.

Oh and I completely know what you mean about the sister-brother thing. My first-grade girlfriend kept talkin' bout how she was gonna marry her brother Charlie someday.

Funny, I never had this problem. (OK, OK, I'm a chick. But I don't consider myself "cute" in the least, so it's always surprising that I get bartenders' attention. Male or female, I have no problems.)

Is the younger sister really shy? I can relate to feeling that way if so. For example, I have no problem talking to people I already know at these RF events but meeting new people can be a task for moi. Thus why I've never actually spoken to HTG in person even though we've both been to some of these events and I talk to Sheep who's always around her.

Catherine thinks she's shy, but I think it's an excuse to stay in a bubble. She's pretty outgoing, IMO.

I usually describe myself as shy, but I can talk to pretty much anybody. This started in college, but I was all for meeting new people then because none of my closest friends went to the same school I did, and I figured it was good to be well-rounded in my experiences. Met some really interesting people, so I think it's really too bad that she's limited herself in this way!

Rutgers College, class of 2000.

I always correct Matty whenever he calls me a "Rutgers Fan" because that makes me sound like a ham-n-egger bandwagon-jumper. I'm not just a "fan." I am an alum.

I fucking EARNED my scarlet and black by surviving the football team being a laughingstock during the Terry Shea years (2-9; 0-11; 5-6; 2-9) ... and I also hold a BA in English from one of the more highly regarded English programs in the US.

I mostly hung out with arts people - vocal music & theatre people - but I also hung out with a lot of Orthodox Jews from the Chabad crowd because of my friend Dave and his g.f. (now wife) Dit. As I am not Jewish, and I didn't have many Jewish friends growing up (Catholic grammar school will do that and the Jews I did know in high school were very secular), I found it very interesting to learn more about another religion and its cultural traditions. Hell, after college, I lived with Dit and kept kosher for two years ... it was really interesting and also a lot of fun. And we shared a lot of traditions, including baking Christmas cookies (!) and dyeing Easter eggs from me ... and making hamentashen and latkes from Dit. It was a blast. I wouldn't trade that experience for anything else. (It also made me conscious of the fact that there are actually good Kosher wines available out there!!!)

I think that, depending on your experience, you find the people on whom you can rely and they are your friends forever. I found a lot of good people who I still talk to ... and stuff like Facebook & MySpace has made it easier to stay in touch when we can't get together.

I dunno man... she kinda grows on me. It might be due to the fact she doesn't seem like she's in love with herself like other women on the radio seem to be. She has intelligent things to contribute, has a nice laugh as pointed out by a gentleman in this thread earlier, and doesn't step on people's lines. Also, I think she energizes Ron and 0Fez, gets them into a talkative energy that's good for the show. I've known a few girls who have that affect on men, it's almost drug-like.

Deb's good radio. Having her on 2, 3 times a week wouldn't be too much for me. Tho I'm still pissed off about that RockaHulaLuau.

I fucking EARNED my scarlet and black by surviving the football team being a laughingstock during the Terry Shea years (2-9; 0-11; 5-6; 2-9)

I know I am running the risk of getting into creepy territory since I had a couple of gushing posts about HTG in today's listening thread. Fuck it. I loved hearing her on the show today. Not only do like her voice, laugh, humor, and point of view, I also like the new dynamic she brings to the show.
Today Ron talked about Fez's problems. It started to go down the same tired path of Ron pointing out the blindingly obvious and Fez agreeing in a way that sounded like he was being scolded. This afternoon, however, he can brought in Deb to see what she thought and the topic suddenly felt fresh. It's not as though she said anything groundbreaking but another voice, especially a female one, just adds something different.
A similar thing happened when he talked to ESD about something. I can't remember what it was about. I'm sure something to do with piss. Once again, another voice made the topic not as tired as it has been recently.
I loved today's show and I hope they bring in HTG as much as possible.

I said was I liked her laugh, how she said "fucked things up", and something else that I can't remember and I got a double warning that I was getting into creepy territory. No problem. I must have put in a way that sounded odd. I didn't mean to. It was just so nice to have her bring something new to the show.
I was probably a little over-enthusiastic at the moment. I do have a problem with HTG so it's not like I am completely smitten or anything. The fact that she would go to a Argentina-US soccer match and root for those damn foreigners annoys me but, hey, we all have a couple of faults.

i've liked listening to her. i don't know if i'd want her to interact to the same degree old lilly did, not because of any failing of hers but just because i like listening to ron and fez that much. i think it's easy to lose the ron and fez dynamic- you could hear it, i think, at the end of the aftershow when fez had sort of 'checked out' from the conversation. but, in small amounts (like during the on air portion today), she's great, and her voice is a great aesthetic pairing to the boys. plus she will hold her own against ron a little more than others.

Pretty much sums up how I feel as well. As long as nobody talks over Ron, I'm fine. Fez gets talked over, but I'm used to it.

I have always loved Ron and Fez buddies hanging in studio - I think it's a great touch that makes it appealing - and it's been something that's been consistent (at least) since they first landed on the shore of Manhattan.

However, I personally agree with Ron when he said that the best regulars on the air are the ones who either can tell a joke or are the joke, and I don't think she really fits into either - she's a buddy, which is cool, but (and I'm in no way bashing her appearances or her) I don't think a cool, go-to girl buddy is what's missing from the show dynamic everyday - but that's just me. That's why we had Mikeyboy.
