Didn't this happen weeks ago?
I thought the thing now that they were trying to forfeit the win because they felt so bad.

I heard that the school wanted to forfeit because they thought it look dishonorable, but the coach and the players insisted that they played a clean game with dignity and wanted to keep the win.

The coach was fired this morning.
After the school had posted an apology on their website the coach sent an email to a newspaper saying that he wasn't going to apologize for a win and even though he did not expect the game to get that out of hand that he felt his players handled themselves with respect.
It hasn't been revealed yet but it seems as though the school fired him for going against what they said.

Yeah looks like the game was on 1/13.
I only saw the links this weekend.

It is shameful and an embarrassment that this happened. This clearly does not reflect a Christlike and honorable approach to competition
great... the further pussifying of america. they won, the other team sucked balls and tried to play the emotion card b/c
Dallas Academy has eight girls on its varsity team and about 20 girls in its high school. It is winless over the last four seasons. The academy boasts of its small class sizes and specializes in teaching students struggling with "learning differences," such as short attention spans or dyslexia.
give me a fucking break. your school team hasnt won a game in 4 seasons. if your team is so special needs, put them in the special olympics. stop making the other girls feel bad for winning.
now the other school lost so bad, they are getting rewarded for it?
The story has received national attention, and the Dallas Academy team has been recognized for refusing to give up during the lopsided contest.
thats just straight bullshit.

This is in the same vein as the girls softball team that carried the opposing player around the bases when she tore a muscle.
And people wonder when no one cares about girls sports. The girls playing the sports don't even care about girls sports, and when they do, they get punished for playing the game by the rules.

and more so, show me the men's basketball team that would EVER get shut out. Have some fuckin pride. You seriously cant get one basket? You cant get to the fuckin foul line? You are a fuckin embarrassment to basketball if you cant get 1 fuckin point in 32 minutes

Full Court press. Sometimes, you just get too frustrated and cant handle it well.
Im suprised it was that low of a final score.

Full court press, no matter how well its played, should lead to at least a couple easy buckets once you break the press. I could play against a HS basketball team BY MYSELF and I guarantee you I'll at least score

I heard they were running a lot of fast breaks which you think would give the awful time as much of an advantage if they were hustling to at least trail the play.

If you're scoring with high school kids you better stick to the seniors.

after you are up 50 pooints, the fat girl, the girl with the fake right leg and the Asian Girl should be getting playing time
no excuse to attempt 3 pointers after 59-0, just run the clock out on each 24 and play minimal defense

im pretty sure there is no 24 second shot clock in women's HS basketball considering there is only a 24 second shot clock in the NBA. Even men's college basketball gets 35 seconds, and college women get 40 i think

Haha. I have seen high school girls basketball games in which they ran out the rest of the clock because they were up 12-8 with 3 minutes left. There isnt even a shot clock in most men's high school BB games.

I have a penis, so I dont know HS Girls Rules
no matter what clock, just run the clock, at 59-0, all the other team wants to do is leave
its good that the coach was fired after opening his mouth
play the role of humble to the public, then laff about it in the locker room

Thinking like this is what the fuck is wrong with this country. Im not even going to argue it. Your fucking wrong. Thats it.
Im sorry but if you have a basketball team and you cant even fill the spots because you dont have enough girls that want to play, then SHUT DOWN THE TEAM. Make it an intramural sport where these fucking losers can play 2-1 games to their hearts content. Why is it someone elses job to feel sorry for these twats???
And another thing, ADD and Dyslexia, arent "special needs" kids. They have a learning disorder that has no effect on how they play sports. Give me a fucking break. Im hoping the coach gets a good lawyer and sues for a boatload of cash from this school.

I'm guessing the winning team at the very least played every one of it players.
If that's the case and they let some freshman w/ zero playing time into the game how can you then ask that person to " not do anything ".
Who knows how often that person will get to play the rest of the season ?
I don't think a young player should have to just runout the clock because the other team is awful.
I don't think they needed to be firing 3 pointers either but a 3 pointer is a tougher shot to make so by them actually attempting that they are giving the other team a better chance to come up w/ the ball.
I doubt this team was 25 for 27 on 3 point attempts.
What would've made this an acceptable game ?
100-4 ?
96-2 ?
The winning team could've handed the ball to the other team and it doesn't seem like they would've scored.
100 points so that's at most 50 shots they took ( less depending on how many 3s they hit ).
You mean to tell me at no point one of those 50 or less shots was rebounded by the other team ?
I wanna see the box score.
How many shots did he losint team take ?
I used to coach hockey many years ago. The league was made up of kids grade 5 through 8, so keep in mind there's a BIG difference in size from a 10 year old to a 13 or 14 year old.
One time we were up 5-0 at the end of the first period, so I put out 3 fifth graders as a line to start the second period to give them a taste of what it's like to play against bigger kids, and give them a rare opportunity to start. Obviously they got limited playing time and the 7th and 8th graders saw the most action. The other team was comprised mostly of 8th graders, and my kids were up to their chest. They scored 2 goals in the first minute of play and we were up 7-0 in the blink of an eye. The opposing coach went berserk, threw all of his team's equipment out onto the ice, screamed he was forfeiting, and that I was a scumbag for running up the score. Then he tried to climb over the penalty box to get at me.
The refs threw him out of the rink, and the kids on his team started crying. Their parents were furious. The refs asked if I'd be willing to let my kids finish playing the game, even though it was officially down in the books as a forfeit win. I said of course, and the kids and parents from the losing team couldn't stop thanking me afterward.
I really don't think kids take it as hard as the adults sometimes.
The funny thing is that the previous year my entire team had never played hockey before. We got our asses kicked plenty of times; 9-0, 12-1, etc. None of the kids on my team quit, cried, or felt abused when we were getting our head handed to us. The next year we turned the tables and went undefeated, dominating everybody else.
That's just sports.

I went to a really small public school and there was always a shot clock in all basketball games, grades 7 and up. How is it even considered basketball without a shot clock?
No matter what year it is the kids are always wrong, are always pussies, are always being raised wrong, will always fail once the reach the real world.
I really hope I never get to the point where I complain about meaningless stuff like this. That's the day I might as well get in the coffin.

What thread are you reading? I dont think I saw one post where anyone blamed the kids for any of it or said they were wrong.

how can you not hit one basket?!? even if you close your eyes and just chuck the ball, you're bound to hit at least one shot!
as for the winning team thinking about forfeiting the win and the coach getting fired: just another example of the 'nobody loses', 'let's not keep score' stupidity that sets up kids for a real eye-opening when they get into the real world where everybody doesn't win.

Actually the girls that lost thought the game was really close and that they were doing good. After all the score was only 001-00. They only got beat by one point and are wondering what all the hubbub was about. Go figure.

I don't know how much bigger the winning school is but from everything I've read it's not as if they are the 10 time defending champs in their league.
Theyve actually lost games to bigger schools this year.
This wasn't in any way a David v Goliath matchup as far as I can tell.
Im hoping the coach gets a good lawyer and sues for a boatload of cash from this school.
I doubt he's got a case.
They didn't fire him for running up the score.
They fired him because he contradicted the school.
I'm sure it's in his contract, if he even has one, that he can't do things like that.
I'm not saying he should've been fired but I don't see him being able to do anything about it.
