Sad news for Mad Magazine fans. Starting with the April 2009 issue (issue #500). Mad Magazine will go from a monthly to a quarterly. I personally have subscribed to Mad since I was 14 years old even though I was told it would rot my brain. Typical of Mads humor a quote from the publisher " The feedback we've gotten from readers is that only every third issue of Mad is funny. So we decided to just publish those"

It's probably for the best, I picked up an issue about 2 years ago to see if I was missing out on anything. Sadly, I wasn't. Maybe it was because the writing was worse, or because I no longer have a teenage sense of humor, but it was slightly depressing.

I haven't bought one of these since New Kids on The Bleech.

They made a magazine based off of that shitty TV show?

Wow.

I loved Mad as a kid, but I'm actually surprised it was still around as a monthly.

Whatcha got on the Boy's Life? or Highlights?

Ha! Just like I remember it.

I'm also surprised it's still around. I figured the only comic books that have survived are superhero ones.

Do they still have Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions? That was my favorite.

I was surprised it was still around as well. I enjoyed it as a kid, but I don't think I've purchased a copy since about 1980.

Every time I think of Mad Magazine I remember the smell of cut hair, the tang of metal chairs, and hair tonic - the atmosphere of the old Barber Shop. My Dad and I would go in for open chair and I would read Mad until it was my turn.

Good times...

Geez, you look terrible.

Right? Thinning hair, wrinkled skin...

Sad, really.

bout the same for me

i can remember as a kid finding a 1962 copy in my grandparents attic, in a box of stuff belonging to one of my uncles, had for years until some housemate ripped it off about 20 years ago

i did buy the cd rom box set 10 years ago, pretty cool every issue from 1952 - 1998
