View Full Version : Is there a Movie/TV motif you feel compelled to point out?

Every time I see the "Jesus Christ Pose" I for some reason feel compelled to point it out vocally, even if I'm alone. Not sure why, I'm atheist, but as a lover of mythology I love the Jesus Christ Pose in art, and I'm sure something sparked it years ago, but it seems so fucking prevalent that I can't help myself. How about you all? What can you not help but point out?

Do you mean like when Harvey Keitel did the "Jesus pose" in Bad Lieutenant". Basic symbolicism in movies and TV?

I just finished watching Gran Torino ten minutes ago and loved everything about it except the Jesus Christ pose at the end. Martyrdom has long been a prominent theme in American movies, but it doesn't need to be so ham-fistedly pointed out with the JCP every fucking time it's used! Well, maybe, with American audiences it does. But I did wish Clint didn't feel the need to Mel Gibson-up his movie with the obvious symbolism. Still a great movie though.
Good topic. I always notice the JCP in films because it's irritating as fuck. Films I can think of off the top of my head with the CGP:
Gran Torino
Braveheart
Matrix 3 (although I dont think his hands were actually out, it was very much implied with Neo's positioning on that pillar and the fact that, by the end of the trilogy, that he was Jesus.)
Platoon (Willem Dafoe's death scene)
Cool Hand Luke (given the movie's countercultural heroic theme and pre-Mel Gibson and American evangelical revival time - and the fact that it's one of the greatest movies ever - the JCP is not just forgivable, but entirely appropriate)
I've seen the JCP a ton more times - oddly or not, especially since 9-11 - but I've been fortunate enough to have forgotten most of the shit films I've seen it in. Curious to see what other films you guys remember it in.
I just remembered how the JCP was beautifully mocked in Silence of the Lambs with Jame Gumm's "tuck" scene, and Christian symbolism was even more beautifully mocked with the Last Supper reenactment in the original MASH.

Damn you for taking mine!! It was also in Clerks 2.
