Cannolis, eclairs, napoleans, rainbow cookies the list goes on and on. When you go to a bakery what's the best pastry or cookie?

My usual used to be the black and white cookie. Now, if I see cannoli I have to order two.

Even as much as I love rainbow and black and white cookies, nothing beats bread right out of the oven.

When I finally get out to a show event I promise to have a container for you. Hopefully it goes over better than Spandy's Lasagna!

Half, but the Irish side almost spelled it "Soda Bread."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Which isn't too bad, either.
As long as you've got plenty of butter.
And a Guinness.
I'm a fan of a good cruller.

Bagels..
I only found three places in my, albiet kinda random, quest to find good bagels in Jersey
ABC Bagels in New Brunswick, Bagels International in Bradley Beach, and some random bagel store on Main Street in Middletown. I like mine big enough to be called a Bagel and make a good sandwich, not a little baguette. Has to be chewy, not cakey or a loaf of wonderbread, and has to have Salt bagels.

I love the italian marzipan cookies with pignoli nuts on them that you get around Christmas time.
My favorite bakery is in Westfield, NJ (woo Jersey Rich shout out!) called Bovella's. My family has been going there every Christmas for the aforementioned cookies, we buy by the pound. There's usually along line out to the street at this place.

I was raised Italian, and hate marzipan.
My favorite bakery is Carlos' in downtown Hoboken and really what I like best are the little pink and green leaf cookies with the little chocolate sweet in the middle of the cookie sandwich.

love the chocolate croissants, but that's a little too niche for a best pastry list. cannoli have great filling, but the shell is a flavorless husk, so it's dq'd. i'd have to go with the 2nd most popular choice on here and vote for the black & white cookie.
When I was a kid we'd spend a couple of weeks during our summers at the shore. One of my best memories is getting the apple turnovers first thing in the morning from Emily's Bakery in Westbrook, CT.

Does anybody know what it's called when you fill what's pretty much a doughnut with Cannoli filling? I used to get them at the Arthur Ave Bakery and they told me once what they were, but I's forgets.

Does tiramisu count?
I don't think it ought to count, as it's more of a trifle (http://baking.about.com/od/triflerecipeindex/a/about.htm)/fool (http://www.dessert.net.au/fool/)than it is a pastry or a cookie.

I agree. It's almost a cake and I wouldn't count cake as a pastry/cookie.
