utriculus!

I hear a lot of random funk on R+F, but being an 80s baby I was never exposed to funk. 60s, 80s, and 90s seems to pervade my generation more than anything else, with a few exceptions. There are totally more musically engrossed in my bracket aware of far greater ranges of music than myself of course, but I think I represent a majority in my ignorance of the funk era.
Fuck I am drunk. Such a wordy post. Oh well, I might as well keep this stream of consciousness horse shit alive since I've already written this much and I'm forgetting how to separate typing from internal monologue...
What I'd like to obtain from you my fine brotatoes, is some fucking essential funk action for my dopey, rambling, drunk ass!
PROVIDE MOTHERFUCKERS, UTRICULUS MUST FEED

I never knew that James Brown would scold/punish his band if they were out of step while on stage and incorporate it into the performance.
I don't know if that says what a dick - or a perfectionist - JB was.
Also didn't know of the falling out between Bootsy and JB.

start with like everyone said the godfather of soul James Brown and work your way down.
Start late sixties and continue until the silly nonsense that is hot pants. appreciate it for what it is. "Were you from? LA? ehh naww ...Lower Alabama! Yeah!" then give black caeser a listen as funk started to fade, then go back.
Start with the rhythm section, the JB's, the core, then try Fred Wesley, then Maceo Parker solo's then your done with the best funk has to offer.
Then go to new orleans and give the southern JB's a listen, The Meters and let them blow your mind. amazing riffs.
Then work your way through New Orleans late 60's through 70's, Allen Tousaint, Lee Dorsey, Ernie K-Doe, Doctor John.. then back to NY in the 70's with Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers and Bobby Womack.
Only then bother to find your way to the hit and miss funk wonders like Ohio players and Parliament who most people associate funk with. It was fun but it wasn't all than new and it sure didn't last long before disco ruined the sound.

Dont forget Kool & The Gang with fantastic hits such as "Get Down on It", "Hollywood Swingin" and "Jungle Boogie"
AND No Funk thread would be complete without The Legendary Dr. John!

Back again, just as drunk as ever, and I'm fucking loving this thread.
R+F people have almost invariably impeccable taste...
Think about literally any other radio show audience and their taste in film and music is GARBAGE. Disturb'd and Transformers. By far the most cultured audience in radio history.

Most everything Stantoon Moore touches is fucking awesome. This stuff is more New Orleans style jazz fusion but its still got a sweet groove. Dance party.
