View Full Version : Tuna: Cans or Pouches?

I have heard that tuna is better in pouches rather than in cans. Is this true? Also, I grew up having "chunk light" tuna and was not aware of "chunk white". So, my perception was skewed by the flavor of chunk light. I have heard that the white tuna is better quality. But when I try it, the flavor is strange to me. Is it really better? Is tuna bad for you anyway? I always get it packed in water.

Kind of off topic
BUT
Has anyone else noticed that the can opener is becoming obsolete?
Everything you had to open with a can opener is now a peel away top.
How long until the can opener is no more?
Sorry to derail the thread right from the start.
Chunk white my entire life
Never heard of pouches

i like solid white in water. i think in tuna you actually want the fat for the omega 3 fatty acids. or some such shit.

I love tuna in all forms, sushi especially. I never noticed a difference in pouch tuna though.

A pouch?
I think you're actually eating cat food.

I've always thought that cans or pouches, the tuna is the same. You are paying (quite a lot) for the convenience of the pouch.
If I am bringing a salad from home for lunch, I'll get one of the pouches because the portion is more appropriate, I don't have to deal with a can opener, and I don't have to drain off the fishy smelling water (or oil).

Exactly. The Omega 3 fatty acids are not like other animal fat, these are actual "heart healthy" and there is a lot of medical research to support this.
Pouch does cost a bit more than canned but otherwise as long as its in water out of a can is just fine.

Can is fine, and tuna is healthly as long as you aren't loading it with Mayo

If you are not loading it with mayo, it's not worth eating. Feed it to the cat.
I like a little bit of chopped celery too.
