Trucker:
The things you can do without just changing your blood pressure medications (which your doctor may have to do anyway) include:
Maintaining your "ideal" body weight
any weight loss will help
Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low in fat
Get 30 minutes of excercise daily if you can
at least 3 times a week
No more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day
avoid extra salt in your diet
If you take a multi-faceted approach, you can often get your BP under control without medication, or at least help keep it lower so you need less medication.
Good luck, man. If you have a DOT physical coming up soon, your doc probably just needs to change your medication, increase the dose you're on, or add a new one.
hope this helps.
your pal,
steve
