Marky Mark's acting in that movie is stupifying.....it was either one of the worst acted/written movies, or perhaps its just so ahead of its time that i cant grasp the majesty of the movie.

The Happening was just awful. Mark Wahlberg can act, I just don't know what happened there - if it was his choice to act like that or the director's and he was just following the director's direction. Sometimes an actor can't help that.

Lady In The Water was just a stab at his critics. A little ego inflated but at least it had some interesting characters and the lovely Bryce Dallas Howard.

So it's The Happening on my count.

AND...

I'll defend The Village - forget the "twist" - I liked the story in the village. The relationships. It was an old fashioned love story. And if you didn't fall in love with Bryce in that role, you're soulless.

PLUS...

Signs. No one liked the whole thing with the aliens not able to stand water. You're automatically assuming that they come from a planet with water - or at least as much water as ours. It's possible for life to evolve where there is little water. Or maybe they do have water, just that ours was poisonous to them. Anyway, I don't think it can be dismissed so easily because of the "water" treatment, if you will.

agreed on all counts. and enough with people saying all his movies have a twist ending. lady in the water, the happening and aliens did not. i'm glad he stopped with the twists after the village, because everyone kept expecting them. and that's another thing, if that movie came out from anyone else, the ending would have been a complete shocker, except people were going into the movie looking for the twist.

Out of those two i'd easily vote for The Happening; Lady in the Water was more forgettable, whereas The Happening I still am pissed about spending money on something so ungodly bad. I always assumed Shamalan (sp?) owed a studio a film, procrastinated on writing one and handed this in at the last second.

If I can write in one though, it will always have to be Empire Records. Everything about that movie is douche-chilling and horrible. From the art student guy who couldn't tell Liv Tyler his feelings, to the mock funeral for the goth girl, to the whorish chick getting her retribution by singing with the band during the "save the store rooftop concert".

It is truly a movie steeped in 90's "alternative rock culture" and comes off as something that looked like a mad libs script where the writers could just fill in current references and one hit wonder bands such as sponge.
