There are reports that Canadian comedian Howie Mandel has been taken to a Toronto hospital suffering from chest pains.

A news station quotes sources as saying Mandel was suffering severe chest pains and was conscious when he arrived at St Michael's Hospital Monday night.

The news station says Mandel was treated for an irregular heartbeat earlier Monday.
Officials at St. Michael's Hospital and the Toronto Emergency Medical Services would not confirm Mandel is a patient, citing privacy laws.

Mandel, who was born in Toronto, has parlayed the success of "Deal or No Deal" into his own new show, "Howie Do It," which premiered last Friday.

The 53-year-old funnyman starred on TV's "St. Elsewhere" in the 1980s.
