I am SO FUCKING JAZZED for this.

I know there are a few Deadheads on this board so I thought I'd clue you in if didn't know already. Ticket pre-sale starts Tuesday.

I just wish they were doing more west coast shows, I'll be going to Shoreline, the place Bill Graham built for them and the last show of the tour. It's also the only outdoor venue of the tour. Should be real special.

What happened to Jimmy Herring...???
Im a bit surprised by the choice of Warren myself. His tone is at time too aggressive and he has a propensity to stray towards pentatonics. I think as long as he listens more than he plays he should be good . . . But I would have preferred someone like Herring or Mark Karan.

Also . . . Im dying to hear a good version of Corrina. Just recently got into that song.

I loved Herring.
That '04 tour was the closest they sounded to the Dead since Jerry died.
They seem to do a lot of Pig-Pen songs when Warren plays.
I guess Warren feels that's his vocal range...

Warren Haynes is going to be great. My only hope is that Bruce Hornsby joins the tour for one of the nights Im at. Id love to hear him sing Jack Straw again. Im psyched for the shows this spring but you cant drink inside Jones Beach which sucks and Camden is kinda far for north jersey people. I wish they were playing PNC.

Jimmy is a full time member of Widespread Panic now.

I saw The Dead with Warren in 04 and I've been in love with that guy ever since (no homo). They covered Elton John's "Madman Across the Water" with Warren singing and it still sends chills up my spine when ever I hear it (I bought the concert download).

This tour with Warren on lead guitar and singing is going to be an experience of a lifetime. I realize no one can fill Jerry's shoes but Warren is about as close as it gets in my opinion.

And Jeff Chimenti on keyboards is pretty cool also. He fits right in with the improv stuff.

I will be at one of the Meadowlands shows without a doubt...

I mentioned this to an old tour buddy of mine, with the impending Dead tour, I am excited, but not as excited as I would have been back in the 90s when I was arranging my life around tours. I will enjoy a show, I will download as much as I can from this tour, but the excitement I feel for an impending Dead tour pales by the excitement I feel for an impending Phish tour.

I don't plan on touring with Phish this time (too many responsibilities) but I sooo would if I was able to. You know that Phish will tour again and hopefully they won't break up again anytime soon. The excitement is there and it isnt there for the Dead anymore. Phish touring means Phantasy Phish, checking the set lists like i would with a baseball box-score and just DYING to be at every show I can.

Either way it is going to be a great year for concerts...Phish, the Dead, I am sure Springsteen, possibly more Radiohead...it is going to be fun.

when i told my chick about this tour she told me that her aunt used to date allen woody for years and became pretty good friends with warren haynes. she was on tour with them for years. my chick said that the last time gov't mule came through buffalo that her aunt was able to get her some awesome seats through warren. she said she would call her aunt to see if she could get some tickets and possibly some backstage passes. im keeping my fingers crossed, cause that would be possibly the coolest thing ever.

I was fortunate enough to see the Grateful Dead while Jerry was still with us 20 times. Some shows were great, some not so much. But I always had an awesome time.

Other Ones/Dead shows are fun and I always appreciate them, but I really have a problem with the ticket price. I won't go see any other band for more than the usual $50-60 a ticket. I don't know, maybe as I get older its harder to toss out money for a ticket when I know I have kids to feed and all that. Besides, I can go see two Phish shows at the same rate. And Phish is the whole band. The Dead are fun and all, but at times I get the feeling that they are a cover band featuring some original members. If Jerry were still alive I would consider the ticket price more readily. Somehow, I don't think the prices would be so much if he was.

As a member of a family of hippies and deadheads, you should be well trained in using your "who's got my miracle ticket" raised finger. You can always head out to the venue and hope for the best. Even with ticket prices being insane anymore, miracles still happen if you need them. Every day.

Yes I got my tix but I a had to settle for general admission lawn tickets instead of reserved which sucks because we're taking my thirteen year old to his first concert and he's really excited, kinda wanted to get him up close.

Websites like Stubhub has really fucked up the whole thing. 15 minutes after presale started, they were selling the reserved $95 tickets for 350-2500 bucks. I don't know how they do it but it's totally fucked. I'm not too happy with dead.net either for allowing that to happen.

My Dad took me to see the Grateful Dead in 1995. We had nosebleed seats at Giants Stadium but its still one of my best memories. Your son will have a blast despite the lawn seats. I am shocked that ticket prices are so outrageous but I guess I shouldnt be.

It's 3 months away and I'm already goin nuts.

The show I'm going to at Shoreline, I'm hearing that this may be the LAST show The Dead will probably do. It is the only show so far that is sold out so I'm pretty sure all the Deadheads on the West coast are feeling the same thing.

This will be an experience of a lifetime and I'm so glad I'll be a part of it.

This is going to be the longest 3 months of my life and I'm already driving my co-workers nuts.

So to give my co-workers a break, I'll be bumpin this thread up about once a week and driving all you wonderful posters nuts here on this wonderful board.

My good friend mentioned it. He said a friend of his read it somewhere on the net so it's probably rumors and speculation.

Since they announced the tour, I've been kind of feeling that it may be their last, I hope I'm wrong. Bill Graham built Shoreline for the Dead and it being the last show of the tour, it's causing a lot of speculation.

I think I just totally lost all sense of responsibility and will be traveling about a 1000 miles roundtrip the weekend of May tenth to see The Dead at Shoreline in Ca. and then the next weekend traveling about 1300 miles roundtrip to see The Doobie Bros., The Allman Bros., and The Dead at The Gorge in Wa.

You know I saw the Dead back in like 2002 and it was eh, nothing special at all and no vibe from the real Grateful Dead shows. I cannot understand why people go to see The Dead now, it is nothing the same and they shouldnt even be called the Dead Jerry is not there and its not the same. I don't mean to sound rude but I just cannot understand why people still want to see this when it is not the same.

It would be different if they were a new band and played different songs but its like they are a tribute band now.

Have you actually listened to any of the shows so far? I felt the exact same until I heard the current incarnation. Yes I have heard some of the shows and they have played with Warren before it is not the same. They can be into it and feelin' it but it is still not the same. I am sorry I just do not enjoy it. Maybe if they just said hey we use to be the Dead but now we are the Other Ones and we shall play some new stuff and old stuff come enjoy it, it would be different but now they are just trying to cash in on the old name and old fans.

It may not be the "same" but last nights show was was one of the best concert experiences I have ever had. I never got a chance to see the grateful dead when they were in they're hay day, so I'm sure what I saw does not compare to that.

The band sounded great and the atmosphere of the crowd last night was electric. I'm glad I got to see it. I'd take a watered down version of the grateful dead over 99% of the crap that is out there today.

Well said Week. If you never had the chance then, what choice did you have now?

I like the bookend songs of both sets...Promised Land/Big River both rock and are two songs that call for Bobby's quirky rhthym fills. Playin never disappoints

I did get a chance to see Grateful Dead while Jerry was alive and I agree that this current band is not the same. I wont go crazy and claim they are better or anything but there are shows from '95 that dont hold a candle to the couple shows Ive heard from this tour.

Its not the same, it will never be the same but its the best post-Garcia stuff Ive heard and that includes The Other Ones stuff, (although I still really hope Hornsby makes an appearance somewhere on this tour) the Ratdog stuff and the Phil and Friends stuff. As sick as it sounds, I really almost wanted to hate this tour but I just dont.

And lets not clamor too hard for new songs lest we get another Banyan Tree style debacle. The couple of times I saw The Other Ones that song just suh-hucked.

Truckin encore is a bit lame though

I agree. But they mention buffalo in the song man! And with that truckin up to buffalo DVD of them at rich stadium, I fully expected it to be in the show somewhere.

Drums and space are two for sure and there are a couple others. There was an article in the buffalo news that said there had been 6 repeats for the entire tour so far.

Eh, I guess not.

Did you have a good time at the show last night?

Yeah, it was great.
After the show we were at a nitrous tank and some guy was walking toward us
with two ballons.
He fell face forward and landed on them and popped them.
Five bucks a pop. (SORRY)
And then the shame when all us heartless pricks stood there and laughed at him...

Bobby's voice sounds at least half an octave higher in that Letterman video but they still got everything delightful

that first set looks freaking awesome.

It was. I copyed and pasted that setlist but its misleading because Branford Marsalis stayed out for Birdsong, Stranger, Lovelight and most of the second set including most of DRUMS. The Dear Mr Fantasy coming out of DRUMS was excellent.
