First: What's your favorite browser to use on the webz?
My new one is Firefox and I'll tell you why...
I installed MacAfee last year and it's kind of a hog and slowed everything down on my computer and I have no idea what's been put on my Explorer but it moves slow as crap.
This browser's like a laser. It's like a shark with a laser in fact and I'm loving it so far.
Would a new browser - of itself - be faster?

Wow - 6 zip FF.
Kickass to have joined the cool kids.
I found out what was locking me out of .net btw... and causing a buttload of invalid site cert warnings on my computer. FF was kind enough to let me know (unlike uppity IE) that my site certificats were not valid and would not be unitl sometime in late 2008.
My computer thought it was Feb. 2004 for some odd reason.
Stupid machine.

The only people I've known that use it get it for free from their ISP, and just don't know enough to get a good free one instead.

Get Firefox, and throw on the AdBlockerPlus and NoScript extensions, and you almost don't need an antivirus software. Those close off two really big sources of viruses.
NoScript can be kind of a pain in the ass when it's blocking some Flash thing a site needs to run right and you see a list of 7 or 8 sites being linked to on that page and you need to know which one to allow, but it's worth it. Great extension.
I've had fairly good results with Safari for Windows, but, like all Apple software, it mysteriously doesn't work quite as well in Windows as it does on a Mac. Imagine that.

I've been using Google Chrome since it's release and really like it.
Loads faster than Firefox, although it doesn't have all the great add-ons that FF has.

Me too. I use firefox for most sites because I love the extensions. I use chrome for RonFez.net because chrome is really fast and it helps balance out RonFez.net's slowness.

Opera

I hate that I don't know shit about technology really.
So MacAfee really sucks then?
Is there anyone who can suggest anti - virus software that's not such a big beast that will be effective?
Discuss.

i prefer opera over firefox. i used to use FF but once i gave opera a try a few years back i never switched back. opera is super fast and you don't have to bother with 90 plugins just to do your usual browsing

Firefox. All the extensions and customizability make it tops in my book.

Weird. The only site I really use FF for is ronfez.net because Chrome loads the pages weird here. They don't start at the first new post, it starts slightly down from there.
Chrome is amazingly fast.

I'm on a Mac and my browsers of choice are Firefox and Camino. Camino is a Mozilla product just like Firefox, but is lightning fast. It also correctly loads every single page I've ever encountered. I can't say the same for Firefox.
I do tend to use Firefox on this site, however, because of AdBlock.

so you can't just click on tools>internet options>and then on the 1st tab you'll find Browsing History?

The adblocker is weird, but is it okay to enable Java in FF?
No video. Is it customizable to allow Java on the sites I trust?

IE can be customizable right down to the favorites toolbar. Any IT can make tabs disappear if you logon to the domain.
If you are simply logging on to the terminal, you probably will have more control. But then your IT narc will spot your weird logons and logoffs during the day and tattle tale on you.

McAfee is fine. Most people like the Free ones, well, because they're too cheap to buy a decent one.
I've used McAfee for years and have NEVER had any issues. If you set it up properly there should be no issues. I'm using McAfee Total Protection
right now and it does just about everything you could ask. Virus, Spyware, Network managing, Backup, Parental Controls.......and more.
