What's a barebone computer? Is it ready to go with storage/memory etc. but no peripherals and software?
Anyone have a negative/positive experience with "open box" items from somewhere like newegg?

I think a bare bones system usually comes with
case
power supply
motherboard
cpu (sometimes w/o a cooling fan)
maybe a hard drive
Anything offered on newegg should have a pretty detailed list of what comes with it.

Barebones is the bare minimum to start building your own pc. But if you're looking to do that, it almost pays to do the research and buy the parts yourself.
